About this file
This document provides a justification for the brand name specification of Time Microwave Systems type AA-8299 High I.R.-Twin Jacketed Tank Cable for use in the TAHS Tank Cable Assembly. The cable is required to meet the electrical signal requirements for proper operation of the TAHS system. The Time Microwave Systems cable has a unique form, fit and function as specified in the baseline cable assembly drawing. It is currently commercially available and remains the only qualified cable that meets the existing system requirements. Qualifying and acquiring an alternative cable is estimated to cost additional and cause a delivery delay of at least to the Fleet. This estimate is based on the market research, vendor development, fabrication of a first article for testing, engineering change proposal, drawing revisions and reviews, and integrated logistics support that would be required to approve a new cable. Known resellers of the Time Microwave Systems AA-8299 cable are also provided. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number N6660424Q0088 for High I.R.-Twin Jacketed Tank Cable from the Department of the Navy Naval Sea Systems Command.
