U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons
Federal Correctional Institution
Sandstone, MN 55072
May 6, 2010
All Interested Parties:
In response to Bidder’s questions regarding the Bureau of Prisons, Federal Correctional Institution, Sandstone, Minnesota, Invitation For Bid IFBP04131000001 below are the questions and corresponding responses.
Question 1: Can we raise the pipe coming out of the building? There was a maximum of 5.5' between existing condensate pipe which is your high obstruction (you have to go under this) and your existing invert leaving the building. Minnesota Code Chapter 7080 says that I can not have more than 4' of soil cover over the tank. I would propose to saw a hole in the wall 3' higher than the existing pipe that exits the building.
Response: There is no concern with the proposal to raise the invert. The contractor must ensure that the new invert location will work with the existing service.
Question 2: Do you have any soils information on the excavation site?
Response: No soil boring or other geological information are available.
Question 3: I talked to a tank manufacturer and they said that a 20,000 gallon tank is 37.5' long. The truck that delivers the tank is 80'+ in length. The sally port that runs east and west is 61' inside. The sally port that runs north and south is 90' in length. With that long of a truck/trailer delivery vehicle it can't make the 90 degree turn even if we back in to the north then turn right to head west. I would propose since you are requesting 3 compartments anyway to install 3 - 8,000 gallon tanks in series.
Response: The specifications do not preclude the fabrication of the grease trap on site using prefabricated components. Specifications do not allow for the forming and pouring of the grease trap components on site.
