Requirement Description
The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ (USU) School of Medicine (SOM) has a requirement for one Maestro Edge MAE 384 (MEA System), Maestro Edge installation and training services, one CytoView MEA 24-White Plate, and one Lumos MEA device (Multiwell light delivery device/optogenetic module) or equal.
These items will offer the SOM’s researchers the capability to record action potentials from the heart cells during their study on the effects of opioids on the heart. More specifically, the device offers researchers the capability to record action potentials from the heart cells is of critical importance to our experimental results. Recording action potentials supports the evaluation of effects of drugs, such as opioids, on the heart and those evaluations are based on changes to the waveform of the action potential. In particular, the measurable quantities amplitude, duration, Vmax, and index of triangulation and appearance of early (EADs) and delayed-after-depolarizations (DADs) reflect alterations to the AP waveform which are well-characterized with regard to underlying mechanism – namely, effects on individual ion channel currents and transporters.
