Justification for Brand Name Only

The USSS intends to purchase Southwest Microwave brand name sensors in accordance with FAR 6.302- 1(c). The USSS currently has over 30 complete units of Southwest Microwave Sensors (transmitter and receivers). This is an emergency replacement of sensors of same or similar units. The units must be compatible and inter operable with the existing system, be “drop-in” replacements for current sensors with no modifications necessary to existing infrastructure, be multi-channel selectable, and have a range between 4ft and 1500ft.

Bi-static sensors have the transmitter and receiver housed in separate units. Each unit must be able to send or receive the signal form the opposite unit. The use of the sensors made by Southwest Microwave Inc. is essential to the Government’s requirements. The use of any other product as a substitute would be incompatible with the current system and therefore is not acceptable as well as risk of failure to the protective mission.
