Drydock Repairs

Amendment A00001 Response to requests for clarifications:

1) Question: Reference Work Item 31, Overhaul and Test Fuel Manifold Assemblies, paragraph 1.1 directs the contractor to overhaul and test designated diesel fuel oil valve manifold assemblies. What size are the valves on these manifolds?

Answer: Per the work item: "Above valves are an integral part of two one-piece manifold assemblies." For sizing, please see the following referenced drawings: "Coast Guard Drawing 905 WMEC 541-001, Rev G, F/O Fill & Transfer System Diagram Coast Guard Drawing 905 WMEC 541-002, Rev E, Fuel Oil Fill & Transfer IMS - A & D".

2) Question: Reference Work Item 34, Repair Deck in Repair Locker #2, paragraph 3.2 tasks the contractor to renew a 3 sqft cofferdam with associated deck plating and piping penetrations (quantity 4). ove the chill water expansion tanks in the space below. Steel deck plating and cofferdam coaming is 3/16 inch thick. Coaming is approximately 3 inches high. Questions are as follows:

Is the requirement to remove only 3 sqft? Is the 3 sqft only the deck section with the 4 pipe penetrations? What are the pipes for and how much pipe is to be replaced? How many linear ft of coaming is there?

Answer: Yes, per the specification, "The Contractor shall renew a 3 sqft cofferdam with associated deck plating and piping penetrations (quantity 4) located in Forward Repair Locker #2, above the chill water expansion tanks in the space below. Steel deck plating and cofferdam coaming is 3/16 inch thick. Coaming is approximately 3 inches high."

All 4 pipes are Chill water supply or return pipes, material is copper MIL-T-24107 grade, size of piping is 2.5 IPS 2.875 OD x 0.65 MIN WALL SMLS. All info can be seen on 905-WMEC-514-22 Sheets 1 and 2. Drawing is available via e-mail upon request.

The cofferdam is 3 sqft in area. The coaming surrounds the perimeter, so linear ft can be determined from this area measurement. The cofferdam looks like an open box. Deck plating is the box bottom; coaming makes the vertical sides/edges of the box. Renewal includes the complete cofferdam - bottom (deck plate), edges (coaming) and 4 piping penetrations through the bottom of the 'box'. Piping penetration renewals typically must be made 3 inches above and below the deck.

3) Question: A ship check would be good but understand that this vessel is not available. Do the same conditions exist on another ship? Could it be checked?

Answer: Another vessel may or may not exhibit the same design. There are some variations from vessel to vessel. The CGC NORTHLAND is in port and a ship check can be arranged by calling LT Jason Hamby at (757) 483-8730.
