Questions regarding HHS-NIH-NIDA-SSSA-CSS-15-721—Inverted Fluorescence Microscope

1. One of the requirements is that the microscope be powered by USB and not AC power. The USB protocol does not provide enough power to meet the power consumption requirements of a fluorescence lamp that is a required component of the microscope. Since these two requirements contradict each other, the requirement for the microscope to be powered by USB and not AC power is too restrictive.

There is no requirement that the system use a fluorescence lamp.

2. Secondly, another requirement is that the system provide for Long-term illumination of up to 7 continuous days. This will cause photobleaching and there are no cameras available that allow for the shutter to be open for 7 days. Does this requirement simply mean that the system is capable of having the lamp turned on for 7 days?

Long term illumination can refer to keeping a light on for the long term or having the ability to take time lapse intermittent images for many weeks with the light coming on only for the image acquisition. The proposed system should offer both of these capabilities.
