5. Our Strength
Times are tough. When the economy is weak, firms are frequently asked tough questions about their balance sheet and staying power. Given current economic challenges, we have decided to volunteer answers to the questions that you might ask us, and our competitors.
How strong is your balance sheet?
With more than $1.4 billion in revenues each year, our company has a rock solid foundation; in fact, we believe that for several years we have maintained one of the most consistently strong balance sheets in our industry. On December 31, 2014 we had $32 million in cash. For the last several years, we have chosen to purchase rather than lease our vehicles, assets and inventorying, minimizing payments and helping us achieve a tangible net worth on December 31, 2014 or more than $100 million. We have a great relationship with venders and suppliers, and because they know we can pay, we get the best prices, terms and delivery.
We are publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange company and you may look up our complete financials anytime on our website or through the Securities and Exchange Commission’s online resources
(NYSE:FIX).
What is your bonding capacity?
Our bonding companies do not have set limits on our bonding facilities in light of our financial strength and track record. Comfort Systems USA’s net assets exceed many local and regional bonding companies. Many customers don’t feel the need to require a bond when we work together and, as a result, our bonding use has been dropping. However, we are happy to oblige if a bond is desired.
Do you have a credit agreement? When does it expire and can you continue to meet the financial conditions?
Our $250.00 million revolving credit facility is led by Wells Fargo bank. It is scheduled to expire in 2019, although we have been assured we can extend it whenever we choose. We have done business with the same banks for years, although we have not borrowed cash for several years. Our facility contains two simple financial covenants and at year-end we exceeded these by very wide margins. Please view our credit agreement anytime in our public filings.
Should we hire you just because you are financially strong?
Yes, you should hire us. Comfort Systems USA’s consistent performance has combined with prudent management to provide our financial strength. We have positive free cash flow every year for the past ten years, including during the steep drop-off after September 11, 2001. Satisfied customers are the only reliable cash source in our industry
