A lesson plan, which includes language goals, class schedule, duration, desired degree of fluency/proficiency using the ILR, and any other specific needs, is developed jointly between the client and Ad Astra, and is provided to the attendees of the class.

Functional Responsibilities: Must be able to convert written foreign language text into English, or vice versa; ability to speak and clearly write using concise grammar and punctuation in both English and source language. Has the ability to speak and clearly write using concise grammar and punctuation in the source and English languages. Must be able to provide written translations of both general and technical materials. Translates source language speech into standard dialects. Writes effectively in both formal and informal exchanges without errors in comprehension or translation. Capable of writing materials in a variety of styles to include technical specifications and government documents. Tailors translation to fit the understanding level of audience. Must be able to translate from, or into, at least one of the listed languages on our GSA; or one of the languages under “Other Languages,” which refers to languages that may be traditionally only spoken and of lesser diffusion.

Medical interpretation generally includes: doctor’s appointments, hospital and/or medical care facility, or at training/workshops/seminars where the subject matter is medical in nature. Legal interpretation generally includes: attorney-client meetings, preliminary hearings, depositions, trials, and arraignments.

LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR
Functional Responsibilities: Responsible for classroom instruction in any and all phases of the English language programs, and supplementary programs such as TOEFL preparation or phonics/literacy; all speaking, and learning is conducted in the target language. Must be able to use a communicative approach, based on listening and speaking, supplementing study with relevant reading and writing exercises. Must be able to instruct a class size of up to 15 students or less for a maximum of student/teacher interaction. Required to be fully trained and required to attend regular teaching workshops and may be assigned additional training as required.
Minimum Years of Experience: Must have a minimum of one year of experience Minimum Education/Degree: Must have a Bachelor’s degree.

SPECIALIZED ASL INTERPRETER

Real-Time Transcriber/CART Writer/Court/Legal/On Site (Government) Functional Responsibilities: The Real-Time Transcriber/CART Writer is responsible for setting up the real-time transcription system (Communication Access Real Time Translation (CART)) at the government site which includes special vocabulary and terms to be entered on the speech recognition engine utilized. The Transcriber will email an unedited final transcription to the client within 48 hours of event. The transcribed text is real-time and it can either be displayed on the client’s laptop or projected on to a large screen for an audience to be read.
This service helps deaf and hard of hearing CART users’ access to the spoken words in real-time. The Real-Time Transcriber/CART Writer must possess skills in a broad range of general assignments. A Real-Time Transcriber/CART Writer is used in general assignments including, but not limited to, staff/business meetings, interviews, training courses, performance evaluations, and education classes.
