LABOR CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS
Permit Expeditor
Minimum Education: High School Diploma (HSD); Minimum year’s experience: 5
Responsibilities: Project Expeditor is responsible for material and equipment procurement and deliveries.
Laborer
Minimum Education: HSD, Asbestos Awareness; Minimum year’s experience: 3
Responsibilities: Laborers are responsible for providing the work efforts related to hand work on project components. Specifically, Laborers are responsible for holding fire hoses utilized for dust control, providing hot work such as torch cutting of structural steel or rebar, removing hazardous materials from project sites including all bulbs, ballast, mercury containing switches, solvents, paints and other stored but non-regulated chemicals. Also, upon the completion of demolition the laborers will assist in site clean up. This includes silt fence removal and hand picking of small debris from project site.
Electrician
Minimum Education: HSD, Journeyman Certificate; Minimum year’s experience: 10
Responsibilities: Electrician is all electrical components on the project, including disconnects prior to demolition. The electrician is responsible for ensuring the building is de-energized.
Should the project require partial or selective demolition, the electrician would be responsible for the separation of circuits. Many times a portion of a structure is required to stay active. All these circuits can be interconnected. The electricians would be responsible for electrical safety on the project.
Plumber
Minimum Education: HSD, Journeyman Certificate; Minimum year’s experience: 10
Responsibilities: Plumber is responsible for most sanitary and potable water elements related to the project. Specific project involvement includes severing the all services coming into a building. This would include potable, sanitary, chiller, and reuse lines. The importance of the plumber is to ensure that all lines are cut and capped with public safety in mind. All lines are connected to existing systems that serve other occupied buildings.
