PEAK POWER SAVERS
877-789-9883
PEAKPOWERSAVERS.COM
What is peak demand?
Peak demand refers to periods of exceptionally high energy demand. These periods typically occur during the summer months, when air conditioning use increases significantly. Using energy wisely during these times of peak demand reduces stress on the electric grid and makes the electric delivery system more reliable.
What is the Peak Power Savers device and how does it work?
A Peak Power Savers device has been installed on your home near your outside air conditioning unit.
During a limited number of peak demand periods, Consumers Energy will activate the small device, which will allow Consumers Energy to reduce your unit’s run time by 50 percent. This is referred to as a “cycling event.”
During cycling events, your air conditioning system’s fan will continue to circulate air throughout your home. After the period of peak demand has passed, the Peak Power Savers device will trigger your system to automatically resume normal operation.
When and how often do cycling events occur?
Cycling events will typically occur on non-holiday weekdays between noon and 8 p.m., but events could occur at any time in the case of an electric emergency. These events will take place from June through September and typically will last between four and eight hours.
What if I want to opt out of a cycling event?
Program participants may opt out of one Peak Power Saver event per year by calling 877-789-9883.
Opt-outs may be scheduled in advance and will only be counted if an event has taken place on that date.
Will I notice a temperature change in my home during cycling events?
Most customers report minimal changes in temperature. Potential temperature change during cycling events depends on a variety of factors, including the temperature outside and the home’s insulation.
Why will Consumers Energy call a cycling event?
Electricity costs increase during periods of peak demand, and local or regional capacity challenges can also occur when central air conditioning use is at its highest.
Peak Power Savers is a way that our customers can voluntarily assist with keeping electricity reliable and affordable for all. Reducing electricity use during peak periods offsets the need to purchase and generate additional electricity.
If my outdoor central air conditioner compressor is replaced, do I need to contact Consumers Energy?
Yes. Please call us at 877-789-9883 and we will send an authorized electrician to reconnect the device at no charge to you.
