HIF SPECIFICATION
FOR
ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC SOLDERING STANDARDS

ABSTRACT:
This document defines electrical and electronic soldering requirements to be utilized by the U.S. Geological Survey for use in its Hydrologic Instrumentation Program.

Except as noted below, soldering for the Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility (HIF) of the U.S. Geological Survey shall conform to the standards set forth in ANSI/J-STD-001.
Page 1, paragraph 1.2: “such as life support systems and critical weapons systems” shall read “such as life support systems. (Unless otherwise specified by the HIF, HIF products shall be deemed to be in class 3.)”

Page 3, paragraph 2.2.2 Military: (delete)
Page 4, paragraph 4.1: “Solder composition Sn60, Sn62, Sn63, solder form optional” shall read “Unless otherwise specified by the HIF, solder composition shall be Sn63, solder form optional.”
Section 4
Page 19, paragraph 9.2.5.3: “Exposed basis metal caused by cutting of component leads after soldering is permissible” shall read “Exposed basis metal caused by cutting of component leads after soldering is not permissible.”
