About this file
This document outlines specifications for an f-2f interferometer and detection unit required by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The specifications require meeting minimum requirements including stabilizing the offset frequency of a 1 GHz mode-locked laser, integrating a beat note photodetector, accepting optical input within specified wavelength and energy parameters, and delivering an RF beat note signal above 30 dB. Additional requirements include fiber coupling, temperature operating range, safety interlocks, and power supply compatibility. Delivery of one unit is required within 16 weeks to the listed Gaithersburg, Maryland address. The related solicitation is for the specified f-2f interferometer from the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology. Acceptance will be contingent upon verification of all minimum specification requirements.

Statement of Requirements f-2f Interferometer and detection unit
Background:
NIST requires an f-2f interferometer and detection unit to self-reference a solid-state mode-locked laser with a repetition rate of 1 GHz. The laser frequency comb system will perform precision molecular spectroscopy on gas-phase samples in the short-wave infrared near a center wavelength of 1550 nm. The f-2f interferometer and detection unit will support the Isotopic Composition and Precision Molecular Spectroscopy project within the Optical Measurements Group (646.10; Chemical Science Division, Material Measurement Laboratory). The purpose of the project is to link spectroscopic measurements of isotopic composition for greenhouse gases and other constituents of planetary atmospheres to the international system of units (SI) through benchmarked quantum chemistry calculations of transition intensities.
Specifications:
The Contractor shall meet or exceed the following minimum specifications for quantity one (1) f-2f interferometer and detection unit:
1. Shall stabilize the offset frequency of a mode-locked laser with repetition rate of 1 GHz.
2. Shall have an integrated beat note photodetector.
3. Optical input wavelength of greater than 1545 nm and less than 1565 nm.
4. Optical input pulse energy of greater than or equal to 200 pJ at 1550 nm.
5. Optical input pulse duration of less than or equal to 250 fs.
6. Optical input shall be fiber coupled to PM fiber with FC/APC connectors.
7. Radiofrequency (RF) beat note output shall be SMA connector.
8. RF signal-to-noise ratio shall be greater than 30 dB in 300 kHz resolution bandwidth.
9. Operating temperature greater than or equal to 20 °C and less than or equal to 30 °C.
10. Shall include fast laser-amplifier interlock module to prevent damage to device.
11. Shall include a power supply compatible with standard U.S. line voltage.
Warranty:
Standard warranty shall cover the optical elements. Warranty shall be for one (1) year from the date of Government acceptance. Contractor shall cover repair costs within this period, including diagnosis, labor, and parts. Repair work may be performed at the Contractor’s location.
Delivery:
Shall be made FOB destination to:
National Institute of Standards and Technology NIST 100 Bureau Dr.
Gaithersburg, MD. 20899
Normal duty hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with the exception of Federal holidays.
