Details are shown below.

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 BACKGROUND

A. The Bureau of Reclamation, Northern California Area Office (NCAO) located in Shasta Lake, California, requires a water chiller system of appropriate size and capacity to cool influent water of the Livingston Stone National Fish Hatchery (LSNFH) during late summer and fall of 2021.

B. The hatchery is approximately 500 yards downstream of Shasta Dam and is supplied water from the penstocks for Shasta Powerplant generating units two, three, and four. A March 2021 operational model indicates a low lake level elevation this season may produce penstock water temperatures this year above those considered safe for hatchery operations. Water temperatures exceeding 56 degrees Fahrenheit are detrimental to the winter run eggs under incubation and fish rearing at the hatchery. A supplemental system to adequately cool the supply water must be in place before temperatures reach dangerous levels.

1.02 SCOPE

A. The Contractor shall supply a chiller capable of supplying cooled inlet water to the fish hatchery for a period of four months with the option to extend up to an additional two months. The Contractor will install the equipment, service the equipment at manufacturer’s recommended intervals, remove the equipment, and return the site to its original condition.

1.03 OBJECTIVE

A. The objective of this contract is to comply with the Bureau of Reclamation requirement to deliver water to the fish hatchery within parameters suitable for rearing fish at LSNFH.
