The Food and Drug Administration intends to make a sole source award for an ABI 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR system. The award will be made to:
Life Technologies Corporation 3175 Staley Road Grand Island, NY 14072 In accordance with FAR 6.302-1, FAR 13.106(b) and FAR 5.203, Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements.
The FDA has a need to purchase an ABI 7500 Fast Real-Time PCR system to support CFSAN office efforts to develop protocols to detect foodborne pathogens in food and environmental samples. The purchase of this instrument ensures that FDA offices can continue its collaboration with FDA ORA field laboratories. All the field laboratories use the ABI 7500 instruments exclusively in their experimental work. It is a requirement that development labs have the exact same detection instruments as the field laboratories in order to develop, exchange, and validate protocols among different FDA (health) labs or branches. In accordance with FAR 6.302-1 (a) (2) (ii), the ABI 7500 is deemed to be available only from the original source in the case of a follow on for continued development of a major research system. Life Technologies Corporation is the only company to offer the ABI 7500 and no other suppliers were found. It is in the best interest of the government to award a sole source award to Life Technologies.
