PART 1 – GENERAL

C. Owner’s Name: Air Force Research Laboratory, Rome Research Site, Rome, NY.

E. The Project generally consists of the upgrade of the security desk area including furniture, mechanical and electrical systems in Building 3 at Air Force Research
Laboratory, Rome Research Site, Rome, NY.
1.02 CONTRACT DESCRIPTION
A. Contract Type: A single prime contract based on a Stipulated Price.
1.03 EXISTING ITEMS
A. To be determined.
1.04 OWNER OCCUPANCY
A. Government intends to occupy the Project upon Substantial Completion.
B. Cooperate with Contracting Officer’s Representative to minimize conflict and to facilitate Government’s operations.
C. Schedule the Work to accommodate Government occupancy.
1.05 CONTRACTOR USE OF SITE AND PREMISES
A. Construction Operations: Limited to Project work area. Work in areas surrounding
Project work area shall be scheduled in advance with Contracting Officer’s
Representative.
B. Utility Outages and Shutdown:
1. Schedule in advance with Contracting Officer’s Representative and disruption of utility services outside work area.
2. Do not disrupt or shut down life safety systems, including but not limited to fire sprinklers and fire alarm system, without 7 days notice to Contracting
Officer’s Representative.

SECTION 02 00 01
PROJECT PROVISIONS
1.01 SCOPE
A. The work covered under this Contract consists of furnishing all labor, equipment, devices, and materials and performing all work required to upgrade the RIOF security desk in accordance with these technical specifications and applicable drawings.
1.02 REFERENCED CODES AND STANDARDS
A. Codes and standards referred to in this specification shall be the latest adopted issue at the Date of Bid, unless otherwise specifically indicated.
1.03 LOCATION
A. The work areas are located in A Bay and G Bay in building 3 at Air Force Research Laboratory, Rome Research Site, Rome, New York.
1.04 PRINCIPAL FEATURES
A. The work to be performed involves the following principal features:
1. Provide new furniture.
2. Relocate existing generator from building 2.
3. Provide emergency power distribution system.
4. Provide UPS and associated panelboards.
5. Provide ductless heat pump.
B. The above description of work is for the purpose of general information only and is not intended to include and describe every feature of work or to define the scope of the work.
1.05 WORK BY OTHERS

1.07 UTILITIES
A. All reasonable quantities of electricity and water will be made available to the Contractor without cost to the Contractor. The Contractor will be responsible for all connections of utilities from the existing supply points. The Government will identify service tie-in points. The Government will not be held responsible for interruptions of utility service and will not be liable for Contractor delays, damages, or increased costs occasioned by any such interruption of service.
1.08 SANITARY FACILITIES
A. The Contractor and his work force may use the existing sanitary facilities in the various work area buildings, subject to the regulations governing their use by Government personnel. Maintain in a sanitary condition at all times.
1.09 FIRE PROTECTION
A. The Contractor shall perform all work in a fire-safe manner in accordance with fire prevention standards of the Rome Research Site. The Contractor shall have an approved fire extinguisher at the site at all times during working operations.
HALON AND C02 TYPE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ARE NOT AUTHORIZED FOR USE. The Contractor will call the City of Rome Fire Department, 315-339-7734, before working with any flame or spark producing equipment such as tar buckets, grinders, or welders, for approval of the contractors safety measures and to obtain a "Burn Permit" for this type of work.
1.10 POLLUTION CONTROL
A. The Contractor will perform all work consistent with the requirements of all Federal, State and Local laws, rules and regulations pertaining to pollution control.
1.11 WORK CONDITIONS
A. All work on this project will be performed while the building work areas and rooms adjacent to the work areas are occupied by military and civilian personnel. The Contractor is required to protect persons and property throughout the progress of the work. The work area will be kept clean of all debris at all times. All flammables and combustibles stored on-site must be kept in a locker and area, both of which are approved by the Contracting Officer or his designated representative.
1.12 WORKMANSHIP
A. All work to be performed under this Contract shall be under the supervision of workmen skilled in the trades involved. Special qualifications for certain work are listed in the appropriate sections of this specification.
1.13 SUBMITTALS
A. All items indicated in the Schedule of Material Submittals shall be submitted for approval:

1. Any other items required, per specifications, that cannot be visually verified shall be submitted for approval when requested by the Contracting Officer or the designated representative.
2. Submittals which may be required by this Contract, if submitted in printed matter, shall be made in four copies. One copy of the printed submittals will be returned to the Contractor.
3. The Contractor must submit for approval those items which deviate from the specifications. Submission will be on an AF Form 3000.
B. At the pre-construction conference, the Contractor, Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative, and the Contract Administrator will review the submittal requirements. The Contractor must be prepared to discuss the delivery dates for those submittals which are required, or for the items the Contractor plans to submit for approval. Once approved, the submission deadlines shall be incorporated into the Schedule of Materials submittals.
C. The Contractor is reminded that any item(s) installed prior to the Contracting
Officer's approval is being done at his/her own risk. If any item does not meet the Contract requirements as determined by the Contracting Officer, the Contractor will be required to remove same at his/her own expense.
D. Equipment submittals, unless otherwise specified, shall conform with the following:
1. Submittals shall be complete with the manufacturer's product description literature. SUBMITTALS WITH INSUFFICIENT LITERATURE WILL BE
DISAPPROVED.
2. Submittals shall include a complete listing of all associated parameters contained in the Technical Specifications and Drawings (materials, finishes, capacities, temperatures, pressures, electrical characteristics, etc.). THE
CONTRACTING OFFICER OR HIS TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE WILL NOT
TRANSFER INFORMATION FROM THE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS AND
DRAWINGS TO THE SUBMITTALS. INCOMPLETE SUBMITTALS WILL BE
DISAPPROVED.
3. Submittals shall be clearly marked to differentiate between the applicable and extraneous portions. THE CONTRACTING OFFICER OR HIS TECHNICAL
REPRESENTATIVE WILL NOT MARK THE SUBMITTALS. UNMARKED
SUBMITTALS WILL BE DISAPPROVED.
1.14 INTERRUPTION OF UTILITIES
A. No utility services shall be interrupted to make connections, to relocate, or for any purpose, without approval of the Contracting Officer.
B. Request for permission to shut down services shall be submitted in writing to the
Contracting Officer fourteen (14) days prior to date of proposed interruption. The request shall give the following information:
1. Location of shut-off.
2. Services affected.

3. Hours and date of shut-off.
4. Approximate length of time shut-off will be in effect.
C. Services shall not be interrupted until receipt of approval of the proposed hours and date from the Contracting Officer.
1.15 FIELD MEASUREMENTS
A. The Contractor shall verify all measurements and be responsible for dimensions, fitting and proper trimming of items directly connected with all work described in this Contract. The Contractor shall immediately notify the Contracting Officer of any discrepancy prior to starting the work.
1.16 SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
A. The work to be done on this project is located within areas that are under security.
To gain access to the areas to examine the work to be done for estimating purposes, arrangements must be made with the Contracting Officer. Contractor personnel will be granted escorted entry into the areas. Prior to initial work commencement, the Contractor shall supply the Contracting Officer a letter identifying all personnel employed during construction. Each time additions or deletions to the letter occur, an updated letter shall be forwarded to the Contracting Officer. Identification data shall include name, social security account number and company name/phone number of each person.
B. All buildings in the project are Controlled Areas and Contractor personnel shall stay in their work areas and not wander freely throughout the buildings. Names of the Contractor personnel who will be working during non-duty hours shall be furnished in writing at least one week in advance. Access to Rome Research Site (RRS) facilities is controlled by a card entry system. Contractor personnel shall be required to obtain magnetic entry cards for all personnel who will be involved in the work and who need to have access to the building. The magnetic entry cards can be obtained from the RRS Security Office, AFRL/RIOF, in Building 3. These cards shall be returned to the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative before completion of the final inspection.
1.17 DELIVERY AND STORAGE
A. Materials shall be delivered to the work area in undamaged condition, stored in fully covered, well ventilated areas, and protected from extreme changes in humidity and temperature.
B. The Contractor is responsible for securing materials in the storage area to protect from pilferage and vandalism.
C. The storage areas for this project are located as shown on the Drawing Title Sheet.
Access to these work areas is provided off main routes within the Griffiss Business and Technology Park Complex.
1.18 SAFETY
A. The Contractor shall:
1. Comply with all safety and health requirements necessary for the protection of personnel, facilities and equipment including, but not limited to all applicable

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, while performing this contract at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Rome Research Site (RRS) in Rome, NY.
2. Maintain a written Safety Program, as required by OSHA and make said plan available for review by the government upon request by the contracting officer.
3. In the event of a mishap during the performance of this contract on AFRL RRS premise, notify the contracting officer in an expeditious manner. Notification shall include the following information:
a. Contract, contract number, name and title of person(s) reporting.
b. Date, time and exact location of accident/incident.
c. Brief narrative of accident/incident (events leading to accident/incident).
d. Cause of accident/incident (if known).
e. Type of injury sustained and/or estimated cost of accident/incident
(material and labor to replace/repair) when damage is to government property.
f. Nomenclature of equipment and personnel involved in accident/incident.
g. Corrective actions (taken or proposed).
h. Other pertinent information.
1.19 PROPRIETARY EQUIPMENT
A. Reference to any equipment, material, article or patented process by trade name, mark or catalog number shall be regarded as establishing a standard of quality and shall not be construed as limiting competition. The Contractor may use any equipment, material article or process which is equal to that named as approved by the Contracting Officer.
1.20 PROTECTION
A. Protection of existing work:
1. The Contractor shall take all necessary precautions to insure against damage to the existing work to remain in place, to be reused, or to remain the property of the Government; i.e. walls, light fixtures, carpet, etc.
2. The Contractor shall insure that structural elements are not overloaded and additional structural supports required as a result of any cutting, removal, or demolition work performed under any part of this Contract are added.
B. Protection of buildings from the weather:
1. The interior of the building and all materials and equipment shall be protected from the weather at all times.
C. Dust control:

1. The amount of dust resulting from demolition shall be controlled to prevent the spread of dust to occupied portions of the building and to avoid creation of a nuisance in the surrounding areas.
D. Temporary closures:
1. The Contractor shall provide temporary closures at all openings in outside walls affected by their work to maintain weather protection and security.
E. Protection of personnel:
1. Where the safety of non-Contractor personnel is endangered in the area of removal work and new construction, barricades shall be used.
1.21 REMOVED MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
A. General:
1. All materials and equipment indicated to be removed as part of the work become the property of the Contractor for removal from the job site at the Contractor’s expense, unless otherwise shown on the drawings or specified.
B. Items re-used as part of the work:
1. Items indicated to be re-used will be stored by the Contractor until such time as they may be reinstalled.
1.22 DISPOSAL OF REMOVED MATERIALS
1. Materials removed from the project which are designated as unusable by the Government shall be disposed of by the Contractor at his own expense off the Griffiss Business and Technology Park in accordance with applicable regulations.
2. All debris to be removed from the work site shall be transported in canvas covered trucks with the canvas tied down to prevent loss of materials while in route to the disposal areas.
3. The Contractor shall police the truck routes continuously and all debris which has dropped shall be picked up immediately.
B. Materials for Contractor salvage:
1. This material shall be removed from Government property before completion of the Contract.
2. Materials for salvage shall not be sold on the site.
1.23 REMOVAL AREAS
A. Patch existing construction and finishes damaged or left incomplete due to removals. Patching, unless otherwise indicated, will be limited to areas where removals occurred and will match existing in material, color and finish.

B. Cap or otherwise terminate existing utility services to removed equipment on all utilities that are to remain active.
1.24 SPECIAL CONDITIONS
A. Should any materials be encountered during construction which are suspected to contain hazardous materials and are not indicated as such on the drawings, immediately stop work in that area and report the encountered condition to the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative.
1.25 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING
A. Provisions must be made to leave each entrance secured at the end of work each day and to minimize the duration of time each entrance is worked on from start to completion. Any work which affects the use of a required building exit must be coordinated with the Rome Research Site Safety Office.
B. The Contractor is required to maintain circulation corridors, exits and exit stairs in all building areas occupied by the Government.
C. Traffic control:
1. Routes of ingress and egress on the grounds and within existing buildings to the location of the work shall be over routes as directed by the Government.
2. Areas for parking vehicles belonging to the Contractor and his employees will be designated by the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative. Maintain the parking areas free of debris and obstructions, including snow.
1.26 CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULING
A. The Contractor may be paid for materials on site, however, they must appear on the Contract Progress Schedule and be inventoried by the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative prior to payment.
1.27 WORK SCHEDULE
A. Working hours for the Contractor will normally be between the hours of 0700 and 1600 hours (7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.), excluding Saturdays, Sundays and Federal holidays.
B. If the Contractor desires to work during periods other than above, additional government inspection forces may be required:
1. The Contractor must make his/her request to the Contracting Officer three (3) days in advance of his/her intention to work during other periods to allow assignment of additional inspection forces.
2. If such force is reasonably available, the Contracting Officer may authorize the Contractor to perform work during periods other than normal duty hours/days.
3. However, if inspectors are required to perform in excess of their normal duty hours/days solely for the benefit of the Contractor, the actual cost of inspection at overtime rates will be charged to the Contractor. These
TE Project #3527 SECTION 02 00 01 - 8 adjustments to the Contract Price may be made periodically as directed by the Contracting Officer.
1.28 REMOVAL OF TEMPORARY FACILITIES
A. Maintain all temporary facilities and controls as long as needed for the safe and proper completion of the work.
B. Remove all such temporary facilities and controls as rapidly as progress of the work will permit or as directed by the Contracting Officer.
1.29 CLEAN-UP
A. Debris and rubbish control:
1. Remove all debris and rubbish daily from the site.
2. Remove debris and rubbish into a dumpster; then transport in a manner that will prevent spillage on streets or adjacent areas.
3. The Contractor shall make his/her own arrangements for dumping off the
Griffiss Business and Technology Park.
4. Burning of waste material on Griffiss Business and Technology Park is prohibited.
B. Regulations:
1. All disposal and hauling equipment and methods used shall comply to Federal, State, OSHA, and local regulations.
C. If the Contractor utilizes a collector box, it must be provided with a cover.
D. The Contractor shall protect and restore lawn areas and plant materials during the course of this Contract. Lawn areas shall be protected and restored to a condition equal to that prior to the start of work of this Contract.

REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 CODES
A. Conform to the requirements of all Federal, State and Local Codes and Ordinances, unless otherwise noted below.
B. Conform to the requirements of all public utility companies.
C. The requirements of Military Handbook 1008B, the Uniform Building Code, National Fire Protection Association Codes and National Electric Code apply to this project.
D. Conform to OSHA requirements, including Part 1910, General Industry, and Part
1926, Construction.
1.02 PERMITS, FEES AND INSPECTIONS
A. All permits (other than building permits), fees and inspections required by Governmental agencies, regulatory agencies, utility companies or others during the course of the work shall be obtained by the Contractor.
B. The Contractor shall arrange for and pay all costs of such permits, fees and inspections.
1.03 REFERENCED CODES AND STANDARDS
A. Codes and standards referred to in this specification shall be the latest adopted issue at the Date of Bid, unless otherwise specifically indicated.

3.01 CONFLICTING REQUIREMENTS
A. In the event of conflict between applicable Codes and Regulations and the requirements of the referenced Standards or these specifications, the provisions of the more stringent shall govern.

GENERAL PROVISIONS
DIVISIONS 2 THROUGH 14
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE
A. Furnish and install all equipment and materials required to provide the general construction work shown on the drawings and herein specified.
1.02 FABRICATION DRAWINGS, MATERIAL LISTS AND EQUIPMENT SUBMITTALS
A. Unless otherwise noted or herein specified, the following are required:
1. Carpeting.
2. Painting systems.
3. Light gauge metal framing systems.
4. Gypsum board systems.
5. Suspended acoustical ceiling systems.
6. Resilient flooring systems.
7. Furniture.
8. Firestopping.
9. Roof flashing.
2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
A. All materials and equipment shall be in strict accordance with the parameters herein specified.
2.02 ACCESSORIES
A. It is the intent of this specification that all systems and equipment shall be complete with the necessary quantity of all accessories and components required to ensure a properly functioning installation.
3.01 INSTALLATION

A. Unless otherwise noted or herein specified, all materials and equipment shall be installed in strict accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
B. All electrical work herein specified and/or noted shall be executed in strict conformance with the National Electrical Code.
3.02 RECORD DRAWINGS
A. Promptly record (in a neat, legible and red color only accentuated fashion, on a complete, designated set of contract documents containing no other markings) all significant differences reflected by the actual installation (sizes, capacities, locations and features of distribution systems and equipment).
B. Thoroughly review such recordings weekly with the Contracting Officer’s Technical
Representative and submit the completed set at the completion of work.
3.04 MAINTENANCE MANUAL
A. Near the completion of work, submit two bound, neatly arranged, indexed maintenance manuals for approval.
B. Manuals shall contain copies of all approved fabrication drawings, material lists and equipment submittals; equipment operation/ maintenance bulletins and names, addresses and telephone numbers relative to parts and service.
3.05 INSTRUCTION
A. Provide thorough, organized instruction regarding equipment and systems operation to the Contracting Officer or his/her authorized representative (secure written acknowledgement and forward to the Contracting Officer or his/her authorized representative).

CLEANING UP
1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. Related requirements specified elsewhere:
1. Cutting and Patching, Section 02 00 45
2. Cleaning for specific products or work: the respective section of the specifications.
B. Maintain premises and public properties free from accumulations of waste, debris and rubbish caused by operations.
C. At completion of work, remove waste materials, rubbish, tools, equipment, machinery and surplus materials and clean all sight exposed surfaces; leave project clean and ready for occupancy.
1.02 SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
A. Standards:
1. Maintain project in accordance with safety and insurance standards.
B. Hazards control:
1. Store volatile wastes in covered metal containers and remove from premises daily.
2. Prevent accumulation of wastes that create hazardous conditions.
3. Provide adequate ventilation during use of volatile or noxious substances.
C. Conduct cleaning and disposal operations to comply with local ordinances and anti-pollution laws.
1. Do not burn or bury rubbish and waste materials on project site.
2. Do not dispose of volatile wastes such as mineral spirits, oil or paint thinner in storm or sanitary drains.
3. Do not dispose of wastes into streams or waterways.
2.01 MATERIALS

A. Use only cleaning materials recommended by manufacturer of surface to be cleaned.
B. Use cleaning materials only on surfaces recommended by cleaning material manufacturer.
3.01 EACH CONTRACTOR, DURING CONSTRUCTION
A. Execute cleaning to ensure that building, grounds and public properties are maintained free from accumulation of waste materials and rubbish.
B. Wet down dry materials and rubbish to lay dust and prevent blowing dust. Erect dustproof barriers to keep dust from drifting through building.
C. At reasonable intervals during progress of work, clean site and public properties and dispose of waste materials, debris and rubbish.
D. Provide containers for collection of waste materials, debris and rubbish.
E. Remove waste materials, debris and rubbish from site and legally dispose of at public or private dumping areas off Government’s property.
F. Vacuum clean interior building areas when ready to receive finish painting and continue vacuum cleaning on an as-needed basis until building is ready for substantial completion or occupancy.
G. Handle materials in a controlled manner with as few handlings as possible; do not drop or throw materials from heights.
H. Schedule cleaning operation so that dust and other contaminants resulting from cleaning process will not fall on wet, newly painted surfaces.
3.02 FINAL CLEANING
A. Each Contractor shall:
1. Employ experienced workmen or professional cleaners for final cleaning.
2. In preparation for substantial completion or occupancy, conduct final inspection of sight-exposed interior and exterior surfaces and of concealed spaces.
3. Remove grease, dust, dirt, stains, labels, fingerprints and other foreign materials from sight-exposed interior and exterior finished surfaces; polish surface to designated shine finish.
4. Maintain cleaning until project, or portion thereof, is occupied by Government.

CUTTING AND PATCHING
1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. Cutting and patching covers adjustment to, and necessary reworking of, elements of construction in both new and existing work. The following definitions for cutting and patching apply to this Contract:
1. Cutting:
a. Physical modification of construction work, both new and existing, or removal of existing or installed materials, excluding excavation and earthwork.
2. Patching:
a. Restoration or replacement and installation of construction material, both new and existing, including finishing and patching.
B. Execute cutting, fitting or patching or work required to:
1. Make several parts fit properly.
2. Uncover work to provide for installation of ill-timed work.
3. Remove and correct defective work.
4. Remove and correct work not conforming to requirements of Contract
Documents.
5. Remove samples of installed work as specified for testing.
6. Install specified work in existing construction.
7. Remove existing construction.
8. Provide equipment, labor and incidentals necessary for cutting and patching as required for the installation of work in existing walls, floors and ceilings.
Patching must match adjacent material and finish.
9. Provide lintels capable of supporting wall construction above openings that are cut in existing walls.
C. Coordination:
1. Coordinate the installation of work with other Contractors to minimize cutting and patching in new construction.

D. In addition to Contract requirements, upon written instructions of the Contracting
Officer or his/her authorized representative:
1. Uncover work to provide for the Contracting Officer or his/her authorized representative’s observation of covered work.

E. Do not endanger work by cutting or altering work of others.
F. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED OR DETAILED ON THE DRAWINGS, THE GENERAL
CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CUTTING AND PATCHING REQUIRED FOR ALL
TRADES.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. Prior to cutting that affects structural safety of project, submit written notice to the
Contracting Officer or his/her authorized representative requesting consent to proceed with cutting, including:
1. Identification of project.
2. Description of affected work.
3. Necessity for cutting.
4. Effect on other work of structural integrity of project.
5. Description of proposed work, designate:
a. Scope of cutting and patching.
b. Contractor and trades to execute work.
c. Products proposed to be used.
d. Extent of refinishing.
6. Alternatives to cutting and patching.
B. Should conditions of work or schedule indicate change of materials or methods, submit written recommendation to the Contracting Officer or his/her authorized representative, including:
1. Conditions indicating change.
2. Recommendations for alternative materials or methods.
3. Submittals as required for substitutions.

1.03 PAYMENT FOR COSTS
A. Costs caused by ill-timed or defective work, or work not conforming to Contract

2.01 MATERIALS FOR REPLACEMENT OF WORK REMOVED
A. Comply with specifications for type of work to be done.

A. Inspect existing condition of work, including elements subject to movement or damage during removal of adjacent materials.

A. Provide shoring, bracing and support as required to maintain structural integrity of project.
B. Provide protection for materials on adjacent surfaces.
C. Provide protection when work will be exposed to the elements.
3.03 PERFORMANCE
A. Execute fitting and adjustment of products to provide finished installation to comply with specified tolerances and finishes.
B. Restore work that has been cut or removed; provide new products to complete work in accordance with requirements of Contract Documents.
C. Refinish entire surfaces as necessary to provide an even finish:
1. Continuous surfaces: to nearest intersections.
2. Assembly: entire refinishing.
D. Fill and patch openings and holes in existing construction when bolts, piping, ducts, conduit and other penetrating items are removed.

A. All penetrations through fire-rated or smoke partitions require sleeves, fire-taping and fire-safing:

FINISH HARDWARE
1.01 SUMMARY
A. Furnish finish hardware required to complete the work as shown on the drawings and herein specified.
B. Furnish trim attachments and fastenings, specified or otherwise required, for proper and complete installation.
C. Deliver to the job site those items of finish hardware scheduled to be installed at the job site and deliver to other points of installation those items of finish hardware scheduled to be factory installed.
A. Templates:
1. In a timely manner, to assure progress of the work, deliver templates of the approved finish hardware items to pertinent manufacturers of interfacing items such as doors and frames.
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Provide the services of an AHC or DAHC member of the Door Hardware Institute to:
1. Be available for consultation with the Architect at no additional cost to the
Owner during progress of construction.
2. Be present at completion of construction to:
a. Inspect installation of all finish hardware items.
b. Make all minor adjustments required.
c. Report to the Architect on completeness of the installation.
B. The hardware consultant may be an employee of the supplier.
1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. Individually package each unit of finish hardware, complete with proper fastenings and appurtenances, clearly marked on the outside to indicate contents and specific locations in the work.

2.01 GENERAL
A. Fasteners:
1. Furnish necessary screws, bolts and other fasteners of suitable size and type to anchor the hardware in position for long life under hard use.
2. Where necessary, furnish fasteners with toggle bolts, expansion shields, hex bolts and other anchors approved by the Architect according to the material to which the hardware is to be applied and according to the recommendations of the hardware manufacturer.
3. Provide fasteners that harmonize with the hardware relative to finish and material.
B. Where butts are required to swing 180 degrees, furnish butts of sufficient throw to clear the trim.
C. Furnish silencers for door frames at the rate of 3 for each single door and 2 for each door or pair of doors, except weatherstripped doors and doors with light seals or sound seals.
2.02 TOOLS AND MANUALS
A. With the delivery of permanent keys, deliver to the Owner one complete set of adjustment tools and one set of maintenance manuals for locksets, latchsets, closers and panic devices.
2.03 ACCEPTABLE PRODUCTS
A. Single source for items:
1. Except as specifically otherwise approved in advance by the Architect, furnish only the product of a single manufacturer for each item (such as “door butt
Type 1”).
2. To the maximum extent practicable, furnish similar items (such as door butts) only as the product of a single manufacturer.
A. Install hardware in accordance with the manufacturers printed instructions and adjust for smooth operation.
1. Installation sequence: Use proper installation sequence e.g.; install overhead stops and coordinators before surface mounted door closers.

2. Template door closers for maximum door swing by wall placement and jamb conditions. Where overhead stop prevents door frame from swinging to wall, template closer to exceed degree of opening allowed by overhead stop.
B. Use proper tools and methods to prevent scratches, burrs or other defacement.
C. After installation, cover hardware with protective cloth or paper to prevent damage during remaining construction. Remove protection upon completion.
D. Adjust existing related hardware as required for the proper operation of all the hardware.
1. Where items of finished hardware will be surface mounted to existing steel frames, continuously weld to frame a 1/8 inch thick steel plate of sufficient size to properly reinforce frame. Drill and tap plate to receive machine screws.
2. Coordinate installation of surface mounted hardware with weather stripping requirements to provide full coverage weather seal.
