RFP - FA860419R8013

Charleston AFB, Question Set

1. Reference Attachment 2, Page 11 of 42, Section 3.2.2.1 ROLLERS, States, "ROLLERS shall have a minimum diameter of 5 inches. ROLLERS on the transfer section of the

SDC and all LTCs shall be on maximum 18 inch centers. All other ROLLERS shall be on maximum 12 inch centers."

The current system has all ROLLERS on a 12 inch centers, including the SDC and LTCs.

After reviewing the specifications with Mr. XXXXX he would prefer the above specification to be changed to 12 inch centers for the entire system.

Please let us know if this is change can be incorporated to the proposal.

The benefit is a much less radial load on each roller an associated bearing.

RESPONSE: The specification will not be changed. Note 12 inch centers are acceptable since the specification states maximum 18 inch centers on the specified conveyor sections.

2. Reference Attachment 2, Page 13 of 42, Section 3.2.2.5 STRUCTURAL FRAMES AND SUPPORTS, States, “All conveyor frames and support legs shall be constructed of structural steel and shall be sufficiently rigid to maintain alignment under all operating conditions. The frames and supports shall withstand

All static and dynamic loads resulting from the storage and transfer of pallet loads… The maximum allowable elastic deflection for the roller conveyor frame during any operation shall be 0.12 inch.”

We actually use “Formed Channel” for heavy duty conveyor systems. We can provide equivalent

“Formed Channel” from a performance standpoint to the “structural steel”.

Please advise if “Formed Channel” will be acceptable.

RESPONSE: “Formed Channel” will not be acceptable.
