PURPOSE OF ACQUISITION

REPLACE AN AGING & OBSOLETE SITT

PROCURE 2 EACH, REDESIGNED SITTs THAT WILL BE DESIGNED TO:

BE SAFER TO OPERATE

BE MORE EFFICIENT TO USE

PROVIDE MORE CONSISTENT TESTING OF SHOCK ISOLATORS

AUTOMATICALLY CONTROL PREPROGRAMMED TESTS, INCLUDING DATA ACQUISITION

KEEP UP WITH INCREASING WORKLOAD

SITT PURPOSE-FUNCTION

TEST THE OPERATING PARAMETERS OF 3 SIs

MISSILE SUSPENSION SYSTEM (MSS)

LIQUID SPRING – USES COMPRESSIBLE FLUID WITH STEPPED PISTON DIAMETER TO CREATE RETRACT FORCE

LAUNCH EQUIPMENT ROOM (LER)

LIQUID SPRING– USES COMPRESSIBLE FLUID WITH STEPPED PISTON DIAMETER TO CREATE RETRACT FORCE

LAUNCH CONTROL CENTER (LCC)

PNEUMATIC with MECHANICAL SPRING – USES CHECK & RELIEF VALVES BETWEEN OUTER TANK & INNER CYLINDER

SHOCK ISOLATORS

MSS SI TESTS

SPRING RATE & FRICTION TEST

EXTEND & RETRACT THE PISTON

DAMPING/ DROP TEST

DROP 41,000 # WEIGHT SLUG – EXTEND PISTON FROM FULL RETRACT TO FULL EXTEND

REQUIRED DATA ACQUISITION

FORCE VS. PISTON DISPLACEMENT DURING BOTH TESTS

- MSS -

SPRING RATE & FRICTION TEST

- MSS -

DAMPING/DROP TEST

LER SI TESTS

SPRING RATE & FRICTION TEST

EXTEND & RETRACT THE PISTON

REQUIRED DATA ACQUISITION

FORCE VS. PISTON DISPLACEMENT DURING THE TEST

- LER –

SPRING RATE TEST

LCC SI TESTS

EQUALIBRIUM TEST

WITH 19,000 # HANGING ON SI - TEST SI MOVEMENT WITH RESPECT TO CHANGING CYLINDER PRESSURE

DIFFERENTIAL TEST

WITH 19,000 # HANGING ON SI -TEST RESPONSE OF TANK PRESSURE TO CHANGING CYLINDER PRESSURE

DROP TEST

DROP 19,000 # WEIGHT SLUG – EXTEND PISTON FROM FULL RETRACT TO FULL EXTEND – USE 2” DROP LINK

REQUIRED DATA ACQUISITION

MEASURE PISTON DISPLACEMENT AND CYLINDER PRESSURE DURING ALL TESTS

- LCC –

DROP TEST DATA

EXISTING SITT

LOADING LCC

SOME KEY DESIGN

POINTS & CHALLENGES

LOAD-UNLOAD SI FROM CARTS @ FLOOR LEVEL WITHOUT USING AUXILIARY LIFTING EQUIPMENT

OPERATOR SAFETY – KEEP WORK AS CLOSE TO FLOOR LEVEL AS POSSIBLE

INSTANT RELEASE OF WEIGHT SLUGS DURING MSS & LCC DROP TESTS – TYPE OF MECHANISM?

DESIGNED FOR ALL 3 SI CONFIGURATIONS AND SHORT CONVERSION TIME

POTENTIAL

DESIGN CONCEPT

A potential design concept has been prepared to stimulate ideas for the replacement SITT. It will be distributed at the end of the facility tour to any contractor that desires it.

Contractors are under no obligation to use the potential design concept. Any contractor who uses any portion of it in their proposal and/or final design shall be fully responsible for the integrity of that design.

Contractors are encouraged to use modern technology and innovative ideas to provide a SITT that will meet the given requirements.

QUESTIONS ?

David Bryan (Contracting Officer) will now provide direction as to how questions will be addressed during the Industry Day.
