DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
OKLAHOMA CITY AIR LOGISTICS COMPLEX (AFMC)
TINKER AIR FORCE BASE OKLAHOMA
29 September 2015
Brand Name Justification for 76 MXSS
From: OC-ALC/OBCA for 76 MXSS
Subject: Vacuum Pump
1. 76 MXSS requires the purchase of two (2) Pfeifer vacuums; HiPace 2400 MC Turbo molecular pumps. They are replacing the current pumps because they are wearing down slowly. Utilizing identical pumps will avoid a mismatch of size, power usage, connection plugs, software modifications, and altering our communication ports. The HiPace 2400 MC Turbo molecular pump is the only pump 100% compatible with existing mechanical hardware and software systems already in operation at Tinker AFB. Any other pump would require engineering, rework, and reconfiguration of the machine.
2. 76 MXSS uses the vacuum pumps for evacuating chambers to a very low pressure or vacuum level that allows the electron microscope to operate with most of the air molecules removed. They are a standard piece of equipment used for nearly all electron microscopes around the world. They come in many different sizes, shapes, and types of communication ports per each manufacturer.
3. Market Research was conducted and it was determined after searching known markets that there are several vendors that can provide the HiPace 2400 MC Turbo molecular pumps for this contract, which would meet the govern HiPace 2400 MC Turbo molecular pumps Government’s needs. Pfeiffer Inc. is the original equipment manufacturer and has the data use rights for this equipment; however, this equipment can be procured by other vendors.
4. For further information or clarification on equipment and technical issues, please contact and/or for contract requirements support issues.
