Interested Vendor’s Questions and Answers-3D Sand Printer Solicitation Number FA8125-19-R-0004 Date of Questions: 16 January 2019
Section 1.2 – Specifications:
Q-The 12th bullet under “Salient Characteristics” on page 2 reads: “Printer must include an embedded computer with available operator interface. This computer must not rely on the external PC for the performance of printing tasks”. However, the last sentence of Section 2.3.3 specifies that “The software shall come preloaded onto a computer capable of running the machine and software concurrently. As such, these two requirements seem to be on conflict with each other.
A-SOW has been corrected. Verbiage changed to "The software shall come preloaded onto a computer capable of running the job-box and slicing software concurrently."
Section 2.1.2 – Measuring and Indicating Device Graduations:
Q-Can the software use the metric system?
A-SOW has been corrected. Verbiage changed to "All measuring and indicating devices on the equipment shall be graduated in the inch/pound/second system OR the millimeter/kilogram/second system."
Sections 2.1.9 and 2.4:
Q-Both of these sections reference “fused deposition modeling” (FDM). Can the printer use other technology such as “Binder Jetting” (BJ) technology?
A-Typographical errors. Corrected.
Section 2.3.1 – Material Handling:
Q-This section makes reference to software in section 3.3.2. We believe this is an error, and was intended to reference Section 2.3.3. Please clarify.
• Also, this section sets forth a requirement for gloveboxes and job box transportation. Gloveboxes are typically used for smaller Additive Manufacturing (thermoplastic) systems. Can the job box be transported using either a fork truck or an overhead crane system?
A-Corrected typographical error regarding 3.3.2 versus 2.3.3. Statement was clarified to "...the printer shall include material and job handling equipment, such as job box breakout system (may be integrated in dust collection and material recycling systems), job box transportation if inherently required, dust collectors, and material recycling systems." "Inherently required" implies there is no feasible manner to remove excess sand and parts from the job box prior to job box removal from printing system area.
Section 2.3.3 – Software:
Q-As indicated earlier, this section seems to be in conflict with the 12th bullet of Section 1.2. Please clarify the requirement.
A-Corrected typographical error.
After review of the submitted questions, the Statement of Work has been updated and Amendment 1 is now attached.
