SUBJECT: Request for Brand Name Purchase of Vertical Mill Machine

1. The purchase of a vertical mill is required to supplement to eliminate bottlenecks in machining operations in B3902 Machine Shop.

2. The Vertical Mill requirement is a name brand product

a. Sharp Bed Type Mill – KMA-3 is required to accommodate existing Vertical Mill of Same Type

b. The name brand requirement is based on rationale that no new fixtures and tooling would be required for operation and would be shared by other Sharp KMA 3 vertical mill machine.

c. The single Vertical Mill in operation is utilized 100% of the time.

d. The Savings quantified buy extra production capacity and used of existing tooling is greater than

3. Sharp Bed Type Mill – KMA-3 is the brand that is being used with existing vertical mills currently in use by 76 CMXG/MXDE to meet the requirements necessary to perform the operational mission of the B-52, EC3, and KC-135 AND F15.

4. Continual market research will be done to assess and determine other providers. As providers become available they will be identified.
