Q&As EDAPT Solicitation No. FA7022-11-R-0029, Attachment 5 - Task Order 1

Table of Contents

1. The table of contents lists a "1.4 Task Area 8: Analytical Support", but this task is missing from the document. In its place is "Monthly Progress Report" which should be item 1.5. Is the Analytical Support task inadvertently missing or was it purposely removed?

Answer: This was a typographical error - There is no Task Area 8 or Analytical Support task. See revised Performance Work Statement (PWS).

Item 1.2.1

1. Item 1.2.1 states "modify the EDAPT software package".

• Is there already an existing EDAPT software package?

Answer: No, The intent was to be able to modify the code later as necessary. See revised Performance Work Statement (PWS).

• If so, what are the current applications that are included in it?

Answer: N/A

• What languages were used to develop the EDAPT software package and what platforms (i.e. Windows, LINUX) are currently supported?

Answer: N/A

• Is source code available to modify the existing EDAPT applications?

Answer: No

• If not, will the EDAPT software package be redeveloped from scratch?

Answer: Yes or reverse engineered.

2. Item 1.2.1 states "enable compatibility with Windows 7 and LINUX x64".

• Will the Windows 7 platform be 32 or 64 bit?

Answer: 64 bit.

• Will both the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and the dispersion model (SCIPUFF) need to run on both Windows 7 and LINUX?

Answer: Yes. However, the GUI will usually not be run on the same system as the computational model even if it is the same Operating System (OS). The SCIPUFF model runs on both the Linux and Windows platforms and so must the GUI be able to operate it without regards to the computational platform. This doesn't necessarily dictate the GUI operate on both OS's but it does suggest it.

Additionally, our Linux environment for our computational clusters consists of the resource manager and job scheduler Torque and Adaptive Computing MOAB Cluster Suite. The GUI to submit jobs to our Linux clusters will have to submit job scripts via MOAB/Torque. The GUI will commonly execute on a desktop system on either Windows or Linux one of which potentially in a Virtual Machine (VM). The GUI should allow the operator to initiate, launch, monitor and perform post analysis on the desktop while allowing the computational model to be executed locally on the same system as the GUI or executed remotely on the Linux clusters using MOAB/Torque job submission scripts. An additional caveat is that the Linux clusters cannot see the local desktop file systems. The use of network file systems will be required for remote execution. Given that our modelers can access Linux via remote shell as well as in a VM on the Windows desktop and to focus development, priority could be given to Linux development with Windows development to follow.

However care would have to be given in the Linux development process to consider Windows compatibility/operability in order to prevent cost doubling with independent platform development paths.

Item 1.3.2

1. Can you provide an example for a single typical chemical mechanism?

Answer: Two examples are Carbon Bond IV and hydrolysis of pesticides.

Item 1.3.3
