BATHROBE, CADET, UNISEX
1. SCOPE. This specification covers the requirements for a unisex bathrobe for cadets at the United States Air Force Academy.
2. CLASSIFICATION. The robes shall be in the following classes and colors: Pimento (Red), Blue, Spanish Yellow (Gold), and Silver, see Table A. Each shall have be in one of four class colors in accordance with the Standard Color Reference of America (l0th Ed.) or the **Pantone Fashion and Home Planner (www.pantone.com).

3. FIRST ARTICLE. Before production is commenced, the contractor shall submit to the contracting officer, for approval one finished bathrobe conforming to the requirements of this purchase description. The commodity shall show colorfastness to cleaning. The contractor shall supply Manufacturer Certificates of Compliance for all components of this product with the first article and shall specify the percentage of recovered material used. These certificates must come from the component’s manufacturer.
4. MATERIAL.
A. Basic Fabric. The basic fabric shall be at least a 9oz/yd2 ring-spun knit terry cloth, 100 percent cotton also known as French Terry, loops on one side.

B. Thread. The thread used for seaming and stitching shall be of good commercial quality, polyester/cotton thread. The color shall approximately match the shade of the basic fabric and have "good" fastness qualities to laundering, perspiration, and light. The propeller and wings emblem shall be embroidered using silver and black thread (see figure on pg. 8), size 100/2 of 150/2.
5. DESIGN/DESCRIPTION.
A. General. The bathrobe is a just-below-the-knee shawl bathrobe with three patch pockets. The robes shall have a belt and belt loops and a two piece shawl collar.
The sleeves shall be set in and the back shall be one piece. The bathrobe shall have two hip pockets of identical size and a smaller left breast pocket embroidered with the United States Air Force Academy propeller and wings emblem in silver thread (PMS 877C).
B. Sizes. The robes shall be furnished in unisex adult alpha sizes.

C. Patterns. The manufacturer shall be responsible for all pattern production, to include all grading, that is required to meet the identical design of the robes specified herein. Simplicity pattern 1562 is known to approximate this product.
D. Sleeves. The sleeves shall be two-piece with the back arm seams joined and raise stitched, 1/4 inch gage, with raw edges turned to the inside. The underarm seams shall be double-lapped and double-stitched. The bottom of sleeves shall have a 3 inch wide, set on cuff.
E. Pockets.
a. The lower patch pockets shall be 7 inches wide and 7 inches deep with rounded bottom corners. They shall be sewn on the robes 7" + 1/4" in from front finished edges and 15 1/2" + 1/4" up from the finished bottom edge.
b. The breast patch pocket shall be 5 1/2" wide and 5 1/2" deep with rounded bottom corners. It shall be sewn on the left breast, placed with the back edge 4" +1/4" from the sleeve seam, and the top of the back edge 8" + 1/4" from the shoulder seam.
c. The pockets shall have a 1 1/2" turn under at pocket opening and have a machine stitched hem. The pockets shall be sewn on with the raw edges turned under with a 1/4" gage and have corners securely tacked.
F. Belt. The robe shall have an all-around belt, which is one piece of material folded and stitched with the ends beveled 45 degrees. There shall be a double belt loop 4 inches long stitched to the inside of belt, as shown in View A and View B.
Area remaining open for turning belt shall be secured by hand stitching or topstitching. The belt length and width shall be in accordance with good commercial practice.
G. Measurements. The robe sizes shall be graded to commercial sizes with the following back lengths:

6. LABELS.
A. Size, Identification & Care Label. The bathrobe shall have a white cloth identification label, measuring 2 l/2" long by 2" wide. The identification label shall be a firmly woven, white, cotton cloth, commercial-type size and identification label that will with stand laundering for the life of the garment. The label shall be sewn on near the center collar and below the hanger loop on all four sides and contain the following information:

B. Bar Code: A Code 39 bar code label shall also be affixed to the individual product package. The Code 39 bar code shall be a removable paper ticket of commercial quality with the USAFA 10ABW/LGROC stock number and Code 39 bar code. The paper ticket shall contain a short item description in plain text
7. OTHER REQUIREMENTS.
A. Flammability Requirements: The basic material shall conform to the rules and regulations of the Flammable Fabrics Act.
B. Workmanship: The finished product shall conform to the quality of product established by this document. The occurrence of defects shall not exceed the contractor’s own quality assurance standards and the quality assurance standards defined by this document and the technical data in the bid package.
C. Certification: The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this document and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards and quality assurance practices.
The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to the first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. Reliance on contractor quality assurance systems shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract.
8. INSPECTION.
A. Inspection: The contractor shall inspect the finished products 100% for compliance with this purchase description prior to submitting to the USAFA for final inspection by USAFA Cadet Uniform Quality Assurance Personnel.
B. Final Inspection: The point of final inspection and acceptance of the finished articles shall be at the USAF Academy, using ANSI/ASQC Z1.4 sampling plans and this purchase description.
C. Inspection Levels And Acceptable Quality Level: Sampling, inspection levels and acceptable quality levels (AQL’s) shall be in accordance with ANSI/ASQC Z1.4.
