Questions from Industry (X-Ray Unit for NDI)

1.) Is there a specific type or quality of monitor? (i.e. 3 megapixel, 5 megapixel, 21”, monochrome or color)

The CR system shall contain one (1) 21” (533 mm) minimum diagonal measurement, flat panel, either three (3) or five (5) mega pixel (minimum resolution) monochrome display monitor for viewing the computed radiograph. Minimum resolution shall be either 2048 by 1536 pixels for the 3 mega pixel monitor or 2560 by 2048 pixels for the 5 mega pixel monitor. Monitor software shall include the SMPTE RP133 test pattern for completion of process controls.

2.) The USAF package usually includes aerospace phantom, 2024 RIQI standard, 2024 absorber plate and AL wire IQI. Would these items also need to be included per T.O. 33B-1-2?

T.O. 33B-1-2 does require the USAF Computed Radiography Process Control Standard (NSN 6635-01-555-4372 / Part Number A0295224002), Equivalent Penetrameter Sensitivity Plaques (2024 Aluminum, 5 and 8 mil thicknesses) (ASTM E746 Plaques 2024 Aluminum), and the 2024 Aluminum absorber plate (0.75 in X 8 in X 10 in) (ASTM E746 Absorber 2024 Aluminum).

These aforementioned items should be provided.

The Aluminum wire IQIs are not a requirement listed in T.O. 33B-1-2.

3.) Would imaging plates and cassettes be required? If so, what would the quantity and sizes be?

Imaging plates, cassettes and the sizes and quantities of each are to be determined by the end user and will be based off of their workload and inspection requirements (e.g. general purpose IPs would be used for FOD and water radiographic inspections, high resolution IPs would be used for crack detection radiographic inspections, and ultra-high resolution IPs would be required for welder certification radiographic inspections)

4.) A contractor compiled a list of materials listed below, which they are not sure what all is being requested in the solicitation. Kindly review these items below and provide any feedback …

D -CR 35 COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY SYSTEM:

HD-CR 35 NDT scanner

TreFoc technology 12.5μ/25μ/50μ adjustable laser spot size 30μ BSR certified by BAM 4.3” TFT touch-screen display Portable – weighs only 17.5kg

ACCESSORIES AND OPTIONS:

CASE100001 HD-CR 35 transport case CCB351A0101 IP cleaning wipes. I carton = 10 boxes of 10 wipes each UHIP100001 Ultra-high resolution blue imaging plate 10x24cm (4” x 10”) HR3543CM113 High resolution white imaging plate 35x43cm (14” x 17”)

All of the items listed below correspond to the technical features provided with the HD-CR 35 computed radiography system manufactured by Durr NDT. If the end user has a requirement for the use of hard cassettes during IP exposure and scanning then this system will not be able to scan the IPs with them placed inside of a hard cassette. Furthermore drum scanners were specifically excluded from future consideration due to USAF historical experience of operational damage to Imaging Plates as a result of the nature in which they are fed, scanned, and processed through drum type scanner CR system configurations.
