Aerial Herbicide Application

23 May 2018

Solicitation Questions:

1. 1.4 Aerial spraying application shall be by helicopter ONLY. “Company X” has a fixed wing aircraft, we believe it would be more cost effective compared to a helicopter. Can the operation be done with fixed wing aircraft or is the area only accessible by helicopter? If so will you consider bids utilizing fixed wing aircraft as “Company X” would appreciate the opportunity to bid.

a. Due to concerns with over spray and adequate coverage of the areas, aerial herbicide application shall be provided by helicopter only.

2. Can Alligare Imazapyr 4 SL (EPA Reg No. 81927-24 52.6% Imazapyr) at 1 quart/acre be substituted for Arsenal (EPA Reg No. 241-346 27.8% Imazapyr) at 2 quarts/acre?

a. Yes, the herbicide is already on the approved list for Moody Air Force Base, and the herbicide is labeled for aquatic use with the same active ingredient, as long as the same total amount of imazapyr is applied, and as long as the label directions are followed. This information has been added to the Statement of Work via Amendment 0001.

3. We find that using high rates of Triclopyr with Arsenal to be antagonistic and it decreases the effectiveness of the Imazapyr products. This results in re-sprouting of vegetation after defoliation. Is it permissible to use a Glyphosate/Imazapyr mix instead of a Triclopyr/Imazapyr Mix, in order to obtain the necessary 80% level of control?

a. No. Our experience on the range areas where there is a heavy component of sweetbay magnolia is that glyphosate/imazapyr mixtures alone in the past seemed to release the waxy species making it worse. The high rate of triclopyr was primarily for difficult waxy leaf species like sweetbay magnolia.

4. If the alternate Glyphosate/Imazapyr Mix is not permitted can the amine formulation of Triclopyr (Garlon 3A or Triclopyr 3) be replaced with an Acid formulation of Triclopyr such as Trycera (EPA Reg No. 5905-580) ? We find the acid formulation to be less antagonistic than the amine formulation.

a. No. At this time, this mix has not been approved for use at Moody Air Force Base.
