WARNING: MAINTAIN OXYGEN CLEANLINESS OF ALL COMPONENTS
Twin Series Before Conversion. The Twin Series outlet is typically a 90° CRES (stainless steel) elbow pointed to the on/off valve, and will vary for each Twin Series. Attached to the outlet is a small diameter, non-crushable oxygen hose which is typically 19 inches long.
Twin Series Before Conversion Twin Series After Conversion
Twin Series After Conversion. To convert the Twin Series for use with the PHANTOM suite of parachutist oxygen equipment, remove the elbow and attach the swivel fitting assembly, and then secure the 36-inch hose assembly to the swivel fitting assembly. No other disassembly or reassembly is required. Instructions for the conversion begin in the “Disassembly” paragraph on page 1.

Disassembly. Perform disassembly of the Twin Series only to the extent necessary to replace parts authorized and supplied by the manufacturer for user level maintenance as stated below.
Swivel Fitting Assembly Hose Assembly
Removing the Twin Series Elbow. Before starting conversion, check the two oxygen cylinders for the last hydrostatic test date. An out-of-date cylinder(s) must be replaced it IAW CRM-2587, paras. 5.2.8.2 and 5.2.13.1
WARNING: NEVER ATTEMPT TO PERFORM MAINTENANCE ON A CHARGED OXYGEN SYSTEM. TOOLS USED TO PERFORM ANY DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURES SHALL BE CLEANED FOR OXYGEN SERVICE. FAILURE TO COMPLY
CAN RESULT IN FIRE OR EXPLOSION AND SUBSEQUENT INJURY OR DEATH TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: HIGH PRESSURE OXYGEN. TO PREVENT A FIRE OR EXPLOSION DO NOT DISCHARGE OXYGEN INTO AN ENCLOSED AREA. AREA OF DISCHARGE SHALL BE FULLY VENTED TO PREVENT BUILDUP OF OXYGEN, WHICH COULD CREATE AN EXPLOSIVE ENVIRONMENT. FAILURE TO COMPLY CAN RESULT IN FIRE OR
EXPLOSION AND SUBSEQUENT INJURY OR DEATH TO PERSONNEL.
WARNING: IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE PRESSURE GAUGE IS DEFECTIVE AND THERE IS OXYGEN UNDER
PRESSURE IN THE UNIT.
WARNING: WHEN YOU TURN ON THE SYSTEM, BE SURE IT IS AIMED AWAY FROM PEOPLE.
Remove the Caution tag and pin assembly from the reducer lever. Disconnect the oxygen hose from the reducer outlet elbow, if it is attached. Set the ON-OFF lever to the ON position and discharge any remaining oxygen to the atmosphere. When the pressure gauge indicates zero, set the reducer lever to the OFF position. Use the 11/16-inch open wrench to remove the elbow. Cap or plug all openings, or seal the Twin Series in a bag. Seal the elbow fitting, the hose (if attached) and the Airox (if attached) in an O2 approved bag.
Cleaning. All kit parts are oxygen clean; no additional cleaning should be required. If necessary, only the exterior of the swivel fitting or threads may be cleaned. Wipe with isopropyl alcohol or approved equivalent. The Twin Series outlet reducer threads will be cleaned during conversion using a cotton swab, lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Dry parts using clean, lint-free wipes or gauze pads, or air dry the parts if no other means of drying are available. All alcohol must completely evaporate before the parts are reassembled.
If the inside of the hose is contaminated, replace it. If it is necessary to clean the outside of the hose, plug both ends to keep cleaning solution from getting inside the hose. Clean the exterior with warm water and dishwashing detergent, and immediately dry parts using clean, lint-free wipes or gauze pads. If outside contamination cannot be removed, replace the hose assembly.
Swivel Fitting Assembly Installation. Apply a very small amount of lubricant to swivel fitting threads and screw the O-ring side of the assembly into the outlet reducer until hand tight. Use the 3/4-inch crowfoot and the torque wrench to tighten the swivel fitting to 85 - 105 in. lbs. Cap or cover the console hose inlet and the swivel fitting outlet if the hose is not attached to the outlet.
Hose Assembly Installation. Remove caps and plugs before assembly, and install the B-nut end of the hose assembly onto the flare outlet of the swivel fitting until hand tight. Use the 3/4-inch open wrench on the flats of the hex on the swivel fitting and the 9/16-inch crowfoot on the torque wrench on the B-nut to tighten to 125 ± 15 in.
lbs. Cap or cover the QD coupling and perform the pressure test.
Pressure Testing. The Twin Series must contain 250 psig or greater for testing, so visually verify fill level is at the ‘e’ in Refill, or higher. Remove the Caution tag and pin, turn ON the system, and use the leak test solution to check all assembly connections for leakage. If leaks are present, turn the system OFF and tighten torque assemblies to the highest torque limits. Turn the system ON and retest, and then turn OFF and insert the Caution tag and pin when leak testing is done. Release trapped hose pressure by removing the cap on the QD and pressing the QD coupling’s poppet, which is centered about an inch down in the coupling, with a clean, small diameter Allen wrench or similar tool. Cap or cover the QD coupling and console hose inlet.
If the Twin Series is being placed into service, fill the system to its working pressure, which will be either 1800 or 2100 psig, per CRM-2587.
