MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD
SUBJECT: Request For Information – FA4819-17-Q-3067, XRF Spectrometer
This is a Request for Information in order to seek out any and all sources that may be able to provide the attached item specifications for a XRF Spectrometer. This is for Market Research purposes only and does not constitute any means of a solicitation for these products. If a quote is provided based upon this request it will be solely used for market research and will not be used in any binding form to the Government.

XRF System Requirements:
An x-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer consisting of three (3) items to include:
Item 0001: XRF Item 0002: Data Acquisition and Analysis System Item 0003: Installation, Training, Warranty and Shipping
Equipment must meet following specifications:
1. XRF Specifications:
1.1 Must be an energy dispersive x‐ray fluorescence spectrometer
1.2 The XRF must be able to analyze elements from sodium to uranium
1.2.1 A helium purge system shall be provided to enhance light element analysis
1.2.2 A helium regulator shall be provided
1.3 Must have a range of detection from parts‐per‐million (ppm) to percent levels
1.4 Must be capable of trace level sensitivity utilizing polarized optics geometry and secondary target excitation
1.4.1 Must include at least five secondary targets
1.4.2 One target shall be for optimum excitation of Na and Mg
1.5 The XRF shall be equipped with a palladium (Pd) excitation tube capable of:
1.5.1 Maximum power of 50 W
1.5.2 Maximum excitation voltage shall be 50 kV
1.6 The detector shall be a high‐performance silicon drift detector (SDD) , with a digital pulse processor
1.6.1 The SDD must provide 140‐eV resolution
1.6.2 The SDD shall utilize Peltier cooling
1.7 The system shall be optimized for general purpose applications and analysis of cements
1.8 The sample chamber must have a physical dimensions equivalent to 38 cm diameter and
10 cm height or more.
1.9 Must be provided with two automatic sample changers
1.9.1 15‐position automatic sample changer
1.9.2 9‐position automatic changer with sample spinner
1.10 The system shall be equipped to quantify trace (parts per billion) elements in aqueous samples
1.10.1 Vacuum drier, pump, and sample holders must all be provided
1.11 A starter kit of sample preparation supplies must also be provided to include films and cups
1.12 The unit must be able to analyze solids, powders, liquids, thin films, and fused beads with minimal changing of sample holders required
1.13 Unit must operate on 120 V and come with a 1500‐VA uninterruptible power supply
2. Data Acquisition and Analysis System:
2.1 The unit must be capable of using a menu‐based software for system control
2.2 System must have multiple data transfer capabilities one of which shall be USB connectivity
2.3 The ability to create user‐generated methods is mandatory
2.4 Calibration and overlap compensation must be accomplished via software control
2.5 System must be supplied with a fully compatible computer and monitor
2.6 System must have a library to match spectra. To include fundamental parameters, empirical, and semi‐ empirical quantification, with premade templates for data analysis
3. Installation, Training, Warranty and Shipping:
3.1 Installation must performed by factory trained service personnel
3.2 On‐site training is mandatory
3.3 The spectrometer must be warranted for at least one year from the date of installation
3.4 Must provide on‐site operator training on day of installation and one off‐site XRF training course for one student within a year of purchase.
The system shall be delivered within 8 weeks after contract award to Tyndall AFB, FL.
