Requirements for Thermal Gas Analyzer:

Item 0001: TGA-DSC or equal Item 0002: Mass spectrometer (MS) Item 0003: Computer and Analysis Software Item 0004: Installation, on-site training and two year warranty Equipment must meet following specifications:

1. TGA-DSC or equal Specifications:

1.1 Unit must be capable of running simultaneous TGA and DSC.

1.2 The unit must come equipped with a silicon carbide furnace (SiC) capable of temperature from 25-1600 °C, and a spare Rhodium Furnace capable of temperatures from 25- 1650 °C for specific heat (Cp) measurements. Both furnaces must have a temperature resolution of .001 K.

1.3 The unit must have the option of 10 different interchangeable furnaces which would make the instrument capable of making measurements at; low temperatures -150 – 1000 °C, high temperature 25- 2400 °C, in humid atmospheres, and ballistic heating.

1.4 The unit must come equipped with easily inter-changeable sensors to do DSC-TGA, DTA-TGA, and “jumbo” TGA-only.

1.5 The balance must be capable of measuring up to 35 grams with a resolution of 0.1 micrograms, and a balance drift of < 5 µg/hour.

1.6 The unit must come equipped with three magnetic valves and gas frits for purge gas inlets.

1.7 The instrument must be able to make a vacuum-tight seal at 10E-4 mbar.

1.8 The unit must come with a refrigerated circulation bath capable of cooling 260 W at

20 °C, and a heating capacity of 2000 W.

1.9 The unit must come with an auto-sampler that can hold 20 samples in a removable sample magazine.

2. Mass Spectrometer specifications:

2.1 The unit must be a single quadrupole system capable of measuring 1-300amu with a resolution >0.5 amu and a detection limit of ≈ 1 ppm.

2.2 The unit must use an election impact ion source with an ionization energy of 25eV to 100 eV and use Faraday and secondary electron multiplier detectors.

2.3 The unit must contain a single stage heated gas inlet (max 300 °C), high vacuum system with turbo-molecular drag pump and oil free diaphragm pump, transfer line (max 300 °C), and adaptor for gas transfer system.

3. Computer and Analysis Software:

3.1 The general software must provide simultaneous measurement and evaluation, combined analysis of STA, DSC, TGA, DIL, TMA and DMS in one plot, export of data, and calculations of 1st and 2nd derivatives.

3.2 The TGA software must have baseline correction, mass changes in % or mg, and automatic evaluation of mass-change steps including determination of residual mass.

3.3 The DSC software must provide determination of onset, peak, inflection and end temperature, analysis of exothermal and endothermal peak areas, DSC-integral curve, and degree of crystallinity.

3.4 Software needs to be provided for the Mass spectrometer that links the TGS-DSC to spectra both time-wise and temperature-wise, and have the capability to do multi ion detection up to 64 selectable mass numbers.

3.5 A Windows 7 PC with i5 processor workstation must be provided.

3.6 System must not be on a network.

4. Installation, On-site Training and Warranty:

4.1 Installation performed by factory trained service personnel.

4.2 On-site training for 1 day.

4.3 The equipment shall be warranted for two years from the date of installation.

Delivery within 10 weeks of contract award date.
