STATEMENT OF WORK TO
CONVERT KARDEX HIGH DENSITY FILING SYSTEM FROM MECHANICAL TO
PROGRAMMABLE ELECTRIC
1. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES
1.1 The contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, tools, materials, transportation, supervision, and other items and services necessary to convert the existing Kardex High Density Systems from mechanical assist to a programmable electric with additional Security Access/Limiting Aisle Access function for designated shelves listed in detail in paragraph 2. The 352 SWTS is located in Building 501 at Pope Army Air Field, NC.
2. SCOPE OF WORK
The following scope of work shall serve as general information only and shall not limit the contractor’s responsibility or obligations to perform all task(s) within local, state and federal laws as well as manufacturer’s recommendations. Work will be performed in building 501 located on the first floor in the Logistic/Supply area. There are two separate carriages; carriage 1 consists of 13 rows and carriage 2 consists of 18 rows from the existing Kardex High Density System. A requirement to add a Security Access/Limiting Aisle function is required at designated carriages/rows: carriage 1 at row 2, 3, 4 and carriage 2 at row 4, 5, 6, 7. The approximate dimensions of each row that is between the first and last rows of each carriage is 16” 5’ L by 4” 3/16’ W by 7” 6.5’ H. The approximate dimensions of each initial and final row per carriage is 16” 5’ L by 2” 3/16’ W by 7” 6.5’ H. Finished work shall meet industry standards. The 352 SW TS is responsible for all equipment and assets to be cleared from the shelving unit as required.
2.1. Power requirements: Power distribution through the module shall be via cable arm raceways located above the shelving. The wires shall be completely enclosed in protective insulating conduit within the raceways. Power consumption when unit is idle shall be minimal. There shall be no electrical circuitry below the base frame of any range and no electrical controls below 6" above the floor
2.2. Motor requirements: Each motor, minimum of 1 per range, shall be thermally protected from overload to prevent damage. The motor will drive a full length coupled tubular drive shaft. The unit must have the capability of a choice of motors as follows:
a. 1/8 HP DC High Performance. Motor shall be of a design to incorporate soft start and stop as well as dynamic braking. Motor must have the ability to move a minimum of 30,000 lbs.
b. 1/4 HP DC Heavy Duty. Motor shall be of a design to incorporate soft start and stop as well as dynamic braking. Motor must be capable of moving loads greater than 30,000 lbs.
2.3. Control System: Provide control system allowing for ease of use, security and configuration flexibility.
2.4. User Interface: User interface to operate the system shall use a touchpad sensitive to the human bodies' inherent electricity, enable handicapped users easy access to the system and accommodates "hands full" activation by system users. The touchpad shall provide a clear and easy to understand indication that a carriage has been secured for limited access. The touchpad shall provide a diagnostic display that gives a clear indication of a system operating problem.
2.5. Carriage controls: System shall not utilize mechanical or moving parts to accomplish carriage stopping; shall automatically calculate and adjust slow down and stopping time requirements based on the weight being carried; shall adjust carriage stopping distances to allow a greater distance between carriages in their closed positions that allows for storage of items extending past the edge of the system shelving. The stopping distance change is accomplished with no moving parts or mechanical devices and can be controlled by user personnel.
2.6. Security Function: Shall allow for limiting specific aisle access to specific authorized users utilizing a security access key. Permits up to ten unique security authorization patterns.
2.7. The system shall provide industry standard safety features to include the minimum: a motor current monitoring system that prevents human injury, an auto-stop function when aisle obstruction is recognized, and the ability to manually restore power via touchpad after a power outage
2.8. Safety features: Entire mobile storage system control system shall be UL listed, not just components. The system complies with UL1950 (File No. E210407). This standard is applicable to information technology equipment, including electrical business equipment and associated equipment, with a RATED VOLTAGE not exceeding 600V and designed to be installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70. D1. This standard specifies requirements intended to reduce the risk of fire, electric DE shock, or injury for the operator and other personnel who may come into contact with the equipment.
2.9. Training: Contractor shall provide familiarization/training of functions and system features for system installed.
3. PERSONNEL
3.1 The contractor shall provide supervision that is experienced, fully qualified, and well versed in construction terminology. The supervisor shall maintain direct control and surveillance of all contract personnel who are performing the work.
4. WORKING HOURS AND SCHEDULING
4.1. Work will be performed during normal duty business hours: 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM EST, Monday - Friday.
4.2. Work shall be done in such as manner as to not interfere with student training. The contractor shall coordinate with the unit representative/facility manager, Mr. Dan Kaster, to ensure workers are not working in the same classroom that the students are to learning in.
4.3. The contractor will be required to contact the facility manager, Mr. Dan Kaster, within 3 days of award to establish a work schedule. Work will be inspected, repaired, and completed within a timely manner not to exceed (10) ten days after start of the contract,
5. SECURITY
5.1. All workers will be legal U.S. citizens with legal picture ID’s and able to gain a clearance on to the military installation.
5.2. No guns, drugs, or illegal paraphernalia will be allowed on the military installation.
5.3. All vehicles, equipment, and containers will be subject to search at any time while on or seeking access to the military installation.
6. PROTECTION OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY
6.1. The contractor will protect all government and personnel property from damage. At the conclusion of each work day the contractor shall properly secure their work area. Any damage caused by the contractor will be replaced or repaired at contractor’s cost prior to payment.
7. SAFETY
7.1. All OSHA standards will be complied with.
7.2. Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be worn at all times.
7.3. Best practices of safety in the work place will be adhered to at all times.
7.4. Any electrical, gas, or chemical work will be done by licensed personnel only.
7.5. All tools and materials will be cleaned up and stored safely at the end of the work day or on extended breaks (i.e. lunch).
8. INSPECTION AND ACCEPTANCE
8.1. When work is complete the point of contact will inspect the work for completion and quality prior to the job being accepted.
9. FINAL CLEAN UP
9.1. Upon completion the contractor will adhere to industry standards for clean-up and remove all work related debris.
