All players must wear either gym shorts or sweat pants (athletic attire), pockets are NOT allowed. Cutoff jeans or other pants with belt loops are not allowed. Shorts or pants must be worn above the hips at all times and T-shirts/jerseys must be tucked in at all times. Jewelry of any kind is not allowed. If an official discovers this during the game, the player will be asked to leave and will not be allowed to return until the belt loops and any other infraction of the rule is remedied. No running, cross-training, hiking shoes, or boots are allowed. Short sleeve t-shirt needs to be worn underneath the Fitness Center Jersey for sanitation purposes (No cut off shirts showing armpits allowed under the jerseys issued by FC). Coaches are the only ones allowed to check out jerseys from the Fitness Center and are responsible for turning in the exact number back in. Coaches are responsible financially for replacing lost jerseys.
F. SUBSTITUTIONS:
All substitutions must be listed on the line-up card. If a player is late and their name was not listed as a substitute before the game began, they may not enter that game; however, they can be placed on the line-up card for the next game. Unlimited substitutions are allowed by position only. A team can only make a substitution during the player’s serve that will be substituted. Substitutions can also be made when a team calls time out no matter if the team has possession of the serve. A team can drop down to 4 players if there is an injury or an additional substitute that is currently not on the lineup but is on the roster may enter into the injured player’s position. All substitutions must check-in with the scorer’s table. Once the substitution has been confirmed they will wait to be acknowledged by the head referee to enter the game.
G. OBSTRUCTIONS
If the ball hits the cross beams, roof or lights during play, the ball is playable as long as the ball comes back on the side it was served from. Off the walls, bleachers, and back board it is out.
H. EQUIPMENT:
Regulation NCAA Volleyball will be used
SOFTBALL
The current USSSA Softball rules will govern play except where amended by these by-laws. Please check
‘All Sports Bylaws’ for further clarification.
Teams must have 9 players to begin the game, in order to prevent a forfeit. A team forfeits when they do not have a minimum of 9 players at game time recorded on the official score book and are ready to play.
If a team has to play IAW rules listed above, the missing player will be declared an out each time he/she comes up to bat. A team may insert an Additional Hitter (AH) into its lineup. The batting order must remain constant; however any 10 of the 11 players can take a defensive position throughout the game. If an AH is used, the team must finish with 11 players or the game is forfeited. If an AH is inserted into the game after it starts the player will be ejected. All starters may leave the game and re-enter one time but must remain in the original spot in the batting order. At no time will a starter and his/her substitution be in the game at the same time. SUBS may not re-enter the game after they have left. A team may insert one courtesy runner for one player on the original lineup. If the courtesy runner enters into the game in any other capacity (i.e. sub, pinch runner or starter), he/she will forfeit their position as courtesy runner. A courtesy runner will be the last batter recorded out, and can only be used once an inning.
C. GAME TIME:
There will be a 1 hour time limit or 7 innings, whichever comes first. NO inning will start after this time unless the score is tied. All tied games will play 2 extra innings unless a winner is declared after 1 extra inning; 1/1 count with courtesy will be followed. A game will be considered complete if one team is ahead 20 runs after 3 innings, 15 runs after 4 innings and 10 runs after 5 innings.
D. WARM UPS:
Warm up must be done outside the fences prior to game start time for both teams. It is highly recommended that coaches/managers require their players to be at the game site as much as 30 minutes prior to the start of the game. This will allow for adequate warm up time and also assure teams get their official line up to the official scorekeeper within 10 minutes of the game time. It is also recommended to turn your line up in to the scorekeeper on designated line up sheets/cards using the player’s first and last name. This should be done while the previous game is in progress to keep the games on scheduled times as much as possible. It is not mandatory to enter any substitutions on the lineup card/sheet.
Uniforms are desirable but not mandatory. Shirts and shoes must be worn. Only rubber baseball, tennis or soccer shoes will be allowed. Metal cleats and screw in spikes or cleats will not be permitted (no military clothing allowed).
F. EQUIPMENT:
Two new .44 core game balls will be used for each game. All balls will be returned to the plate umpire upon completion of each game. Breakaway or recessed bases will be used. These bases are made to reduce the load impact generated should a player impact with the base. Double first bases will also be used. On the initial throw to first base from the infield or outfield, the batter-runner is highly recommended to touch the orange portion of the base and not the white. The defense player must always touch the white portion. This rule is in effect only on the initial play at first base.
F. POST SEASON PLAY:
There will be neither a time limit nor a run rule during the Base Championship game. The Home team for all post season play will be determined by a coin toss between teams involved.
G. PITCHER:
Pitchers will be allowed 5 warm up pitches (60 seconds) during the 1st inning and 2 pitches for each inning thereafter.
H. BATTER:
Digging in the batter’s box will not be allowed; 1st violation, a team warning; 2nd violation by the same team (anytime during the same game) will result in a strike on the batter. This is a judgment call by the
UIC (umpire in charge) and is not disputable. Players hitting a home run will not be required to run bases.
This also applies to any runner on base. Teams may start the game with nine players; however, when the vacant spot comes to bat it will be declared an out. If a tenth player arrives, he/she must be put in the game and placed at the end of the batting order. An additional hitter may be used which means 11 players, the batting order must remain constant by all 10 of the players or the game defense throughout the game.
I. HOME RUN RULE:
Home Run limitations will be capped at 4 per team/game. All hits that go over the fence after the 4 home run limit will be considered an out. This rule is subject to change by the Fitness & Sports Manager at any time during the Intramural Season.
J. SLIDING:
A runner deliberately may slide or legally avoid a tag but a player who deliberately crashes into a defensive player will be removed from the game. No “head first sliding will be allowed. 1st violation, the runner is out; if the same person does it again (anytime during the same game) penalty is removal of the player from the game. Feet first sliding is allowed. Fake tags will not be allowed. Offenders can be ejected if the umpire feels there is justification. No warning is necessary.
BASKETBALL
The NCAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Rules and Interpretation rulebook will govern play, except where amended by these by-laws. Please check ‘All Sports Bylaws’ for further clarification.
Teams must have 4 players to start a game. A team forfeits when they do not have a minimum of 4 players at game time recorded on the official score book and ready to play. If neither team is ready to play at game time, it will be a double forfeit; winner of the second match will be declared the winner. All players must be listed in the scorebook before tip-off with numbers. Players will not confront the officials; coaches are the only ones to respectively ask official’s questions.
C. GAME TIME:
The game will consist of two 20 minute halves with a running clock for the first 18 minutes of each half. A regulation clock will be used for the last two minutes of each half. NOTE: The clock will stop in the last two minutes of each half on whistles and time outs only. There will be a five- (5) minute half time break.
D. WARM-UP:
A maximum of five minutes for warm-up and stretching will be allowed prior to each game. Each coach shall ensure all players warm-up before each game.
Players must wear basketball shoes. Short sleeve t-shirt needs to be worn underneath the Fitness
Center Jersey for sanitation purposes (No cut off shirts showing armpits allowed under the jerseys issued by
FC). Coaches are the only ones allowed to check out jerseys from the Fitness Center and are responsible for turning in the exact number back in. Coaches are responsible financially for replacing lost jerseys.
F. SUBSTITUTIONS:
Substitutions shall not be permitted after successful goals in the last 59.9 seconds of the second half or any extra period. Also, substitutions shall not be allowed when the game is stopped in the last 59.9 seconds of each half or any extra period to correct a timer’s mistake or for an inadvertent whistle.
G. EQUIPMENT:
Regulation NCAA Basketball will be used
SOCCER
The current FIFA rules will govern play, except where amended by these by-laws. A goal may be scored from touch within the team’s offensive half of the field. If a goal is scored from the defensive half of the field the opposing team is awarded a goal kick. There is no off sides. There is no slide tackling. Kick-ins will be used in place of throw-ins. Kick-offs may be taken in any direction. All dead ball restarts are indirect. In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least 5 yards away. If the defensive player’s goal is closer than 5 yards away, the ball shall be placed five yards from the goal crease in line with the place of the foul. Penalty kicks shall be awarded if, in the referee’s opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by the infraction. It is a direct kick taken from the midfield line with all players standing behind the midfield line. If a goal is not scored the opposing team is awarded a goal kick. Substitutions may be made on the fly. All substitutes will enter at centerfield. Please check ‘All Sports Bylaws’ for further clarification.
Teams are not limited to the number of players allowed on their roster. However, only six (6) players will be on the field at a time. The minimum number of players on the field is four (4). Each team must start and finish with four players. A team forfeits when they do not have a minimum of 4 players at game time recorded on the official score sheet and ready to play. If neither team is ready to play at game time, it will be a double forfeit.
Teams must arrive at the field 15 minutes prior to game time. Games will consist of two (2) fifteen minute halves separated by a 3 minute halftime. The game will end if one team leads by 6 goals. Games can end in a tie, except during playoffs, where there will be one un-timed sudden death overtime period. A coin toss will decide kickoff and direction.
D. UNIFORMS:
