Reconfiguration and Modification of Spacesaver High Density Mobile Shelving Or Remove and replace with non-proprietary shelving Arden G. Hill Memorial Library Malmstrom AFB, MT 21 July 2016

STATEMENT OF WORK:

The contractor shall reconfigure and modify Spacesaver High Density Mobile Shelving that meets the intent of this statement of work.

Work will be done in several areas. The primary area is the main collection area (the Stacks) and will have shelving removed, modified for reuse, and the layout reconfigured. The contractor may use any remaining shelving from the Stacks to replace the wooden shelving in the education materials/media collection/reference areas and the teen & special collection areas.

1. The shelving removed from the mobile cradles in the Stacks will need to be reconfigured and new bases constructed to allow the shelving to stand.

2. The stationary units will remain as is, although some adjustment to the cradles may need to be done.

3. The “extra” shelving that is removed from the cradles can be used to replace the wooden shelving in the education/media collection/reference, teen & special collection area.

4. New shelving is required in the children’s area, which has specialized library shelving.

5. The current raised platform on which the compact shelving now resides should remain. If it is removed, this would require the floor to be refinished and re-carpeted.

6. The contractor will assure the flooring/structure will continue to meet the weight requirement. Spacing between shelving units must meet ADA regulations.

7. Contractor will dispose of all construction waste/debris at their expense, off-base.

Shelving Requirements:

1. Regardless of reconfiguration or removal and reprocurement of new shelving, all shelving will present a cohesive appearance and generally match in color and type.

2. Must meet safety and construction codes for load bearing, stability, and durability.

3. Slant wall wood/laminate/steel end panels on selected units.

4. Adjustable shelves 10” deep, with backs and ends.

5. Single sided sections must be anchored to the wall.

6. Double sided sections must be stabilized for free standing.

7. Two sections that are single-sided, periodical storage/display (lift shelf) shelving.

8. New shelving units for the children’s area:

a. Children’s picture book shelving sized at 12” deep, double sided and approx. 42” high with flexible divided book stop shelves.

b. The elementary age shelving needs to be 10” deep, double sided, approx. 66” high, and free standing.

c. Juvenile Non-fiction/Special collections shelving need to be 12” deep and 84-92” high, single sided, and wall mounted.

d. Teens shelving needs to be 10” deep and 85-92” high, double sided, and free standing.

Shelving removed from the Base Library is the property of the Government and will be disposed of through proper channels. If SpaceSaver stacks are removed, the contractor will palletize, band, and deliver these items to the base DRMO. 341 FSS will assist in coordinating delivery with DRMO.

Malmstrom Civil Engineering will be responsible for:

1. Disabling the electrical power to all the compact shelving.

2. Permanently disconnect the power to the Stacks shelving area.

The Library/FSS will be responsible for:

1. Removal/replacement of all books and materials from shelving areas.

2. Removal of wooden shelving through required channels.
