Text version

The 5 CES Electrical Power Production (3E0X2) shop requires a Cummins Power Generation/Onan ATS (referred hereafter as Cummins-Onan) and generator to replace the existing non-economically repairable ATS and AFCEC-identified deficient generator. All 3E0X2 military personnel receive training on Cummins/Onan generators in the basic 3-level technical training course and 5-level career development course. The Advanced Troubleshooting, Contingency, Mission Essential Engineer Training (MEET) and SILVER FLAG training that all 3E0X2 personnel attend, base all the generator training on Cummins/Onan equipment. The only exception is some of the older/ smaller Mobile Electric Power (MEP) and MEP tactical quiet generators and those are being replaced by Advanced Medium Mobile Power (AMMP) generators manufactured by Cummins/Onan. The only software the 5 CES purchases (annually) for generator/ATS troubleshooting/maintenance is In-power software from Cummins/Onan as that is the only software they are trained on using. 5 CES is trained on using In-power through both the Cummins-GSA training as well as MEET and SILVER FLAG as the software is included on the new Base Power Unit (BPU). The BPU is manufactured by Cummins/Onan and is the new/approved power plant for all DoD contingency operations. The 5 CES Electrical Power Production shop maintains Cummins/Onan spare parts as 87% of the units they maintain are manufactured by Cummins/Onan. This number is expected to increase to 96% as the AMMP generators replace their older MEP tactical quiet generators.
