1045 Cabling Questions & Answers

1. Is there insulation above the ceiling tiles? Unknown, but not likely. It is a false/drop ceiling.

2. Will the work be done during business hours or after hours? During business hours (7:30-4:30)

3. Is there a requirement to re-route, clean up, or at least secure the floor holes on the second floor from being randomly hit by the users of those cubicles? Not re-route, as this does not appear feasible, but they need to be secured and protected from accidental damage/kicking from the user of the cubicle the floor hole is located in.

4. Confirmed change from original requirement to 1 network port per cubicle. 1 Port

5. How far does the cat6 that need to be replaced run? Does the cat6 run back to a router in the telco room or a punch board? Length unsure. In the upstairs location, Cat 6 just needs to be run from the patch panel / floor jacks through the cubicle furniture and new jacks need to be installed in each cubicle. In the downstairs location, the Cat6 needs to be run from the network rack / switch located in the closet adjacent to the room to the cubicles. This Cat6 downstairs will be punched down on 110 patch panels using 368 “B” Code within the network cabinet. See clarification at the end of this document for more information/options regarding downstairs cabling.

6. Are there existing routes or paths for the cat6, from their current location to the cubicles (through a sub floor to ceiling tiles)? Are the routes or paths approved by all parties?

Downstairs, there are existing routes to the current power/network poles. These lines need to be rerouted through the cubicles. Upstairs, the cabling needs to be run from the current jacks through the cubicle furniture.

7. Are there existing outlets and covers installed at the cubicles? No. There are only blank covers.

The covers need to be replaced with CAT 6 port /Covers

8. What is the extend of the testing of the cat6 and documentation of the routing, labeling you require? Testing needs to be performed to ensure that all cubicle jacks are functioning. Test must include end-to-end pin to ensure no conductor is crossed and distance to endure length standards are met.

9. Where is/are the server/switch rooms in relation to the offices that require cable adjustment? (distance from the switch room) (on the same floor) (approximate distance to offices) The network rack/switch is in a closet adjacent to/connected to the downstairs office.

This rack also services the upstairs office through floor jacks.

10. Was cat6 plenum cable used for the drops? Base standard is Cat6 plenum for all inside cabling.

11. Are the termination plates installed (double ethernet ports) in the cubicles, or will they need to be installed? There are only blank covers in the cubicles. Single port jacks/covers will need to be installed.

12. Will the office cubicles be occupied during the execution of this solicitation? Yes, but the personnel are very flexible.

13. Have the ethernet cables been terminated at the switch/punch down/pass through panel?

Yes—all current jacks are functional and terminated at the switch. However, new cables pulled to cabinet must be punched down on 110 patch panels using 368 “B” Code within the network cabinet replacing removed cable.

14. Will it be permissible to work through the weekend, or is it Monday through Friday normal business hours only? Monday-Friday Normal business hours only

15. What type of cabling is being referred to (e.g. ethernet, fiber optic, coaxial, etc.)? Cat 6 Ethernet Plenum

16. What is the purpose of the cabling (e.g. network connectivity, audio/visual equipment, security cameras, etc.)? Network connectivity

17. Please confirm the number of outlets in each cubicle. The customer has confirmed there is only a need for one port/jack per cubicle.

18. We understand the new furniture configuration may or may not have changed from the pre-existing layout of the space. The solicitation requires the contractor to provide new cable in the event existing cable is insufficient length. In effort to account for existing cable and potential need for additional cable, please confirm the number of existing cables on each floor (1st floor – 30 cubicles, 2nd floor – 15 cubicles).

Clarification – Upstairs there are multiple floor jacks around the room that house the current jacks.

These jacks are not to be relocated. The customer asks that they be secured and properly protected to prevent accidental damage (some of these jacks are in the floor in the middle of an occupied cubicle).

The vendor will route the network/patch cables connected to these jacks and reroute them through the cubicles to new jacks mounted in the cubicle (replacing the current blank covers). The vendor may use the existing cable if the cables are in good condition or may have to run new cables. There will not be any need to interface or run new cables from the floor jacks to the switch upstairs.

Downstairs there are power/network poles that were left from the previous furniture. These poles house the current jacks that run network cables to the new cubicle furniture, but it is an eyesore. The customer’s goal is to remove these old power poles and reroute the lines through the cubicle to the new jacks if possible. This may require running new lines from the switch. The switches are managed by a different contractor, and they will be on-site during installation to assist the cabling contractor while interfacing with the switch and also performing final acceptance alongside the Government representative.

Vendors are welcome to provide two different options with their quotes – one to reroute the downstairs lines completely and remove the old power poles, and one to just run cables from the existing jacks through the furniture, similar to the upstairs solution.
