About this file
This technical requirements document outlines the needs of the 39th Electronic Warfare Squadron of the 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing for a vector signal generator. The instrument must be capable of arbitrary waveform generation through IQ modulation, generating wideband frequency hopping spread spectrum signals and intra-pulse modulation. Threshold requirements include a frequency range of 9 kHz to 50 GHz, an RF I&Q bandwidth of 2 GHz at 50 GHz, 2048 MSa of maximum arbitrary waveform playback memory, 24 GB of maximum storage capacity, one RF channel, enhanced low phase noise, a 2.0 GHz RF bandwidth, a 120V power cord, and an output power of 19 dBm at 43 GHz with a rack mount kit and rails. The unit must be capable of generating arbitrary waveform files, PDW streaming, and pulse-on-pulse simulation through either native software functionality or APIs. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation number FA282323Q9002 for a vector signal generator from the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Test Center.

MEMORANDUM FOR PZIOA
FROM: 39 EWS
SUBJECT: Vector Signal Generator
1. Technical Overview The 39 EWS is in need of a Signal Generator capable of arbitrary waveform generation through IQ modulation. The signal generator needs to be capable of generating wideband Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Signals as well as intra-pulse modulation. The Instrument shall meet the following threshold requirements. The instrument should meet the following objective.
2. Threshold Requirements Frequency Range: 9 kHz to 50 GHz, RF I&Q bandwidth: 2 GHz at 50 GHz, Maximum arbitrary waveform playback memory: 2048 MSa, Maximum storage capacity: 24 GB, Number of RF Channels: 1, Enhanced low phase noise, 2.0 GHz RF bandwidth, 120V power cord, High output power of 19 dBm at 43 GHz, rack mount kit with rails.
All ports related to the requirements shall be operational. Ports directly related to the generation & simulation of I/Q and radar simulation in a single instrumentation setup should be operational. Ports for alignment with another instrument (i.e. another VXG), do not necessarily need to be operational. The unit shall be capable of generating arbitrary waveform files. The unit shall be capable of PDW streaming. The unit should be software capable of performing this function or allow engineers to perform this function using APIs. The unit shall be hardware capable of performing pulse-on-pulse simulation. The unit should be software capable of performing this function or allow engineers to perform this function using APIs. There is no specific requirement for the total number of emitters that can be simulated without dropping pulses.
Peter Crow, Civilian Electronics Engineer, USAF 39th Electronic Warfare Squadron
