PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
FOR
JCAST/ACAST CALIBRATION KIT
1.0 SCOPE: This purchase description identifies the performance requirements for the CALIBRATION KIT that will be used to calibrate the JCAST/ACAST.
2.0 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
2.1 Components & Uncertainties: The CALIBRATION KIT shall consist of the following components or equivalent along with their uncertainties:
2.1.1 Pressure Gauge (MMR): Range 0–100PSIG. Accuracy: ±0.25%F.S. (F.S.=100) P/N: 2084 Series, Manufacturer: Ashcroft Inc.
2.1.2 Pressure Gauge (Altitude): Range 0–15PSIA. Accuracy: ±0.1%F.S. (F.S.=15) P/N: 2086 Series, Manufacturer: Ashcroft Inc.
2.1.3 Pressure Gauge (Mask): Range 0–100”H2O@20°C. Accuracy: ±0.25%F.S. (F.S.=100) P/N: 2084 Series, Manufacturer: Ashcroft Inc.
2.1.4 Pressure Gauge (G-Suit): Range 0-160”H2O@20°C. Accuracy: ±0.25%F.S. (F.S.=160) P/N: 2084 Series, Manufacturer: Ashcroft Inc.
2.1.5 Flowmeter (Low Range): Flow Range 0-20SLPM (@ 14.696PSIA & 70°F). Accuracy:
±2%Rdg or 0.005 SLPM whichever is greater.
Temperature Range 0-50°C. Accuracy: ±1°C.
Pressure Range 50-199kPa. Accuracy: ±1kPa P/N: 4140, Manufacturer: TSI Incorporated
2.1.6 Flowmeter (High Range): Flow Range 0-300SLPM (@14.696PSIA & 70°F). Accuracy:
2%Rdg or 0.05 SLPM whichever is greater.
Temperature Range 0-50°C. Accuracy: ±1°C.
Pressure Range 50-199kPa. Accuracy: ±1kPa P/N: 4040, Manufacturer: TSI Incorporated
2.1.7 Continuity Calibrator: This calibrator is utilized during the JCAST alignment to provide the system with known resistances.
Dynamic Mic Resistance, Left Ear Resistance, Right Ear Resistance:
Range: 2 Ohms, Accuracy: ±2.5% of Charted Value Range: 20 Ohms, Accuracy: ±0.25% of Charted Value Range: 200 Ohms, Accuracy: ±0.25% of Charted Value Range: 1000 Ohms, Accuracy: ±0.25% of Charted Value Range: 2000 Ohms, Accuracy: ±0.25% of Charted Value

2.1.8 Continuity LED Verification Unit: Range/Accuracy: N/A. This verification unit is used to verify the continuity indications on the JCAST. It also provides the user with coarse and fine continuity resistance adjustments to test the continuity measurement circuitry for earphones, dynamic microphones, and active microphones.

3.0 FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
3.1 Ancillary Equipment: All ancillary equipment shall be provided to calibrate P/N:
6177100-20 Joint Combined Aircrew System (JCAST) and 6213100 Altitude Combined Aircrew System (ACAST), Manufacturer: Chemring, to include but not limited to (Ball and Needle Valves to control airflow to sensors, Pneumatic connections (MMR, Mask, G-Suit, Leak Connection, External Pump), External G-Suit hand pump.
3.2 Calibration Cable Assembly: This cable connects either of the continuity boxes to the
JCAST.

3.3 Multimeter Cable Assembly: The cable connects a digital multimeter to the Continuity Calibrator box for current measurements.

3.4 Electrical Calibration Verification Kit: This kit connects the JCAST Continuity Calibrator to a calibrated multi-meter to verify the resistance measurements.

3.5 Panel: All components with the exception of the Continuity Calibrator, Continuity LED Verification Unit, and electrical cables shall be mounted in a front panel assembly.
3.5.1 Panel Labeling: Front Panel of the CALIBRATION KIT shall be labeled to direct user adjustments and control of the airflow to the sensors. Pneumatic connections and sensors shall be labeled for ease of identification during test or alignment. There shall be a visual representation of the flow path through each component. 3.5.2 Panel Configuration: All components shall be configured to follow the calibration process of the JCAST/ACAST. Configured the same as P/N: 6177-6213-CALKIT.
4.0 PHYSICAL/MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS: The equipment shall be constructed of materials that meet the requirements of this specification and in accordance with the best commercial practices for industry-approved equipment. It shall be designed and manufactured to maximize reliability, maintainability, accuracy of operation, and ease of operation. All parts such as shafts, bearings, regulators, switches, controls, etc., shall have proper clearance and adjustments. They shall work together so that the equipment will supply the rated requirements
Rev 0 without unnecessary strains, vibrations, or overheating. They shall be able to withstand the conditions met in shipping, storage, installation, and service. All materials and parts of this equipment shall be capable of withstanding the environmental requirements of this specification.
4.1 Workmanship: The workmanship shall be first class, of neat general appearance in compliance with standard commercial practices. The standards of workmanship shall be such that the system complies with the requirements set forth in this purchase description.
4.2 Model and Serial Number Designation: The CALIBRATION KIT shall be assigned a model number, serial number, and manufacturer’s name. Unique identification labeling shall follow the Unique Identifier Designation requirements as stated in the contract.
4.3 Electrical Protection: The CALIBRATION KIT shall have a fuse or circuit breaker to protect it in the event of excessive current. The AC line power fuses shall be user serviceable without removing any covers /panels or voiding a manufacturer’s service warranty.
4.4 Operating Temperature: 0-40°C
4.5 Storage Temperature: -40 to 70°C
4.6 Input Power: 108-132 Volts AC. 47-63Hz, 1 amp maximum. Standard U.S., 3-prong, 115VAC outlet.
4.6.1 Input Power: Outlet voltages supplies energy to the flow sensors. Pressure gauges shall be battery operated.
4.7 Shipping/Carrying Case(s): A reusable case(s) shall allow for shipment of the CALIBRATION KIT. The case shall be rugged, rigid, waterproof, and capable of withstanding shock and vibration from day-to-day shipping. The case will be inspected by the Air Force and shall be free from any defects (i.e. poor molding fabrication, loose materials, damaged or improperly assembled cases, peeling, or chipping of plating or finish, nicks or burrs of metal parts, and post-molding warping) which affect the durability, strength, safety, or serviceability.
The finish of exposed edges/surfaces shall be smooth and free of sharp or jagged edges.
4.7.1 Case: Storage Case shall be secured using latches, and have carrying handles capable to support the weight of all components. Storage case shall have cushioning and mounting provisions inside the case that provides protection to prevent damage from normal handling during transportation. Storage case interior material shall be manufactured from a material that will not corrode any part of the components; the material shall be oil resistant and not deteriorate.
5.0 OPERATOR’S MANUAL: The hardware manual shall describe how to set up and operate the unit along with a design schematic of the unit.

5.1 Individual Component Listings: The manual shall list the individual components that require calibration, along with their range, uncertainty, Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (OEM) name, and OEM part number.
5.2 Calibration and Alignment Procedures: The manual shall have calibration (verification) and alignment procedures for calibrating and aligning the pressure transducers and any other component that requires periodic calibration.
6.0 TESTING: The CALIBRATION KIT shall be inspected and accepted at a destination specified elsewhere in this contract. The item will be checked with test equipment and parameters equal to or better than those required assuring specified performance requirements are met. Test equipment has first echelon certification directly traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) or other AFMETCAL approved sources where required.
Tests will be performed to assure the CALIBRATION KIT meets or exceeds all of the requirements of this purchase description. Such testing does not relieve the contractor of performing all inspections and quality control checks at the point of fabrication as necessary to assure performance as specified.

DATA REQUIREMENTS
MANUALS: A complete user and service manual and calibration procedure shall be provided with each unit in contractor format. Manuals shall be on CD/DVD-ROM in Indexed Portable Document Format (iPDF). The manuals shall comply with Data Item Description (DID) DI-TMSS-80527C and the Contract Data Requirements List (DD Form 1423).
