BIG MUDDY NF&WR ‐ HEADQUARTERS/VISITORS CENTER

Concrete Floor Slab, Block Walls, and Precast Ceiling Contract

F15PS00623 – Amendment #1

CLARIFICATIONS ‐ 7/02/15

The following responses to questions received are provided for clarification purposes:

QUESTION:

1. In the Spec Documents, page 5 under Work Covered by Contract Documents, it states “The footings and foundations shall be constructed by others and are not part of this contract.” Does this mean that all site grading, footings, and foundation will be poured and in place upon our arrival at the jobsite?

Therefore this job will only incorporate pouring the floor slab, putting in the block walls for the storm shelter/bathroom, and installing the precast ceiling over the storm shelter/bathroom. Correct?

FWS Response: Partially correct, the contractor will be asked to mobilize when the footings and foundation walls have been poured, the underslab MEP work has been installed and backfilled, and the interior of the building has been graded to within 12 inches of the bottom of the floor slab. Due to wet site conditions or other factors, the site grading on the exterior of the building may or may not be complete at the time the notice to proceed is issued. This scope of work does include pouring the floor slab, putting in the block walls for the storm shelter/bathroom, and installing the precast ceiling over the storm shelter/bathroom. Additional items related to that work as listed in the Work Covered by Contract Documents paragraphs are also included.

QUESTION:

2. Also, will the surface beneath the concrete floor slab be compacted already, or is that a requirement to consider when putting together our cost estimate?

FWS Response: According to specification 011000, paragraph 1.4 A. (1) a. This contract includes installing the last 12” of granular fill (including compaction). Compaction of the material below the last 12” will be done by others.

QUESTION:

3. Will there be free water access onsite?

FWS Response: There is no water service on the site. The contractor should include any costs for obtaining and hauling any water required to complete this contract .

QUESTION:

4. I reviewed the specs and see specs 040513 Masonry Mortaring and 040516 Masonry Grouting, however do not see any specs on the masonry units. I did find notes regarding the masonry units in the plans, but just want to confirm I am not missing documents related to the masonry specifications. ?

FWS Response: There is no specification section for Concrete Masonry Units (CMU). Drawings sheet S1, Masonry Notes provides the requirements for the CMU. Also see drawing sheet S3, under Special Inspections for Masonry.
