F14PS01310 Amendment 1 Questions and Answers

Question 1. What is the existing roof composition (1-layer or more of asphalt shingles)?

Answer 1. One (1) layer of asphalt shingles

Question 2. What type of material and thickness is the existing roof deck?

Answer 2. Tongue-and-groove, and possibly plywood sheeting over.

Question 3. What type of material is the chimney constructed with (brick, block, stone, etc)?

Answer 3. Stone chimney

Question 4. Does the building currently have soffits (wood or otherwise) existing? If so, where?

Answer 4. There is no soffit on the front of the building(porch) or rear of house, but needs to be constructed. No soffit or fascia on gable ends. need to construct.

Question 5. Are there access/restrictions in getting to the job site?

Answer 5. Beach access only to the Beane Point Facility. There is no guarantee of condition of beach or access points.

Question 6. Are there any pictures of this building for bidding to see?

Answer 6. See Attachment

Question 7. Per the pictures, there appears to be a non-painted fascia board behind a painted/primed fascia board on all sides of the building. Is this accurate?

Answer 7. Only the front (porch side) and back of the building has an existing fascia.

Question 8. Are both fascia boards scheduled for removal?

Answer 8. It is believed that the back / “behind” board is present on the front of the bldg. (not known for sure if it is on the back side) is a nailer and would remain.

Question 9. If existing fascia boards are scheduled for removal and replacement , then why would there be the need for a soffit on the rear or gable ends of the building as there would be no overhang?

Answer 9. In the back and sides (gabled ends) there exist an approximate 4 inch overhand which needs to be provided with a new fascia and soffit.

Question 10. Can the A/E provide as built details (dimensioned) of the rear, gable, and front porch?

We also would need details of the anticipated new soffit, specifically on the front porch as we have no idea about its current construction nor how it would have to be modified to receive a metal soffit system.

Answer 10. There are no existing drawings and the contract is a design build so it will be the responsibility of the contractor to figure out the details on how new fascia and soffit will be installed.

Question 11. Is there an existing metal thru-wall flashing at the chimney? If not, we cannot guarantee, nor with the metal roof manufacturer warranty, that leaks will not occur where the stone chimney passes through the roof plane (as it appears there are only lead flashings cut into the stone). Is there a new flashing detail for this condition?

Answer 11. There is not a continuous thru-wall flashing at the chimney. The existing flashing is tucked up underneath the asphalt shingle roof/felt. There are no details provided the contract documents require the flashing be installed manufacturer’s details.

Question 12. In addition to the work described in the submittal request I am wondering if the FWS would entertain an alternative?

Answer 12. No, please provide proposal for solicitation’s scope of work.

Question 13. Can we visit the site?

Answer 13. The refuge would allow potential bidders to access the site for purposes of bidding on the project, but staff will not be able to be on-site.
