About this file

This document provides engineering data requirements and testing procedures for the manufacture of a Compressor/Dehydrator, Compressor Assembly (AN/TPS-75). Key details include:

  • The part number is 80973801-01 with National Stock Number 4440-01-582-1594ZR. Testing is required as a First Article and for unit acceptance. Tests include verifying performance meets rated standards in an ambient temperature range of 77-130 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity of up to 90%, as well as delivery flow of at least 0.5 SCFM at 25 PSIG outlet pressure. Outlet air temperature must not exceed 40 degrees F above inlet ambient temperature and dew point must be 10 degrees F or below depending on inlet temperature.

  • Procedures outline setup with a reservoir, pressure gauge, flow meter and dew point meter to test outlet air flow, temperature, dew point and compressor operation including restart times and pressure drop when shut off. Unique item identification labeling requirements are also specified per MIL-STD-130. The related federal contract opportunity is solicitation SPRHA5-24-Q-0038 for one each NSN 4440-01-582-1594 from the Defense Logistics Agency Aviation.

2. Test Setup

a. The reservoir w/pressure gauge is connected to the compressor dehydrator outlet, the needle valve to the reservoir, the flow meter to the needle valve, the dew point meter to the flow meter.

3. Operational Test

a. Delivery Flow Test.

i. Set needle valve open. With compressor dehydrator running, set outlet pressure to 25 psig.

Output air flow must not be less than 0.5 SCFM at 25 (±1) psig.

ii. With needle valve open, operate systems for 10 to 15 minutes and verify the desiccant in the sight glass on the desiccant container assembly is a blue color

b. Outlet Air Temperature and Dew Point

i. Operate system for 30 minutes. Outlet air temperature must not be higher than 40°F above inlet ambient temperature. Outlet air dew point must be 10°F maximum at an inlet ambient temperature of 70°F to 130°F; or 60°F below inlet temperature at ambient of -20°F to +70°F

c. Compressor Restart and Shut Off Times

i. Refer to Figure 8-1. Close needle valve. Pressurize reservoir to 27 psig and ensure compressor dehydrator turns off. Note time. Compressor should be off for a minimum of 3 hours and should not drop more than 3 psi. (Duty cycle of 90:1).
