DTFASA-17-R-00539
Replace Antenna Towers, Remote Communications Air Ground
(RCAG) Facility, Birmingham, AL
THIS AMENDMENT IS BEING ISSUED TO INCORPORATE THE FOLLOWING
INFORMATION INTO THE REFERENCED SOLICITATION
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
1. QUESTION: While looking at the package I found that there was no mention of who would be responsible for the survey of the tower foundations or the geotechnical soil under the foundations. I Also didn’t find any reference as to who would be responsible any existing phone or computer cables and electric wires or underground pipes or other obstructions. The final question is in reference to the towers themselves. Who is the manufacture and a set of DWG’s on the steel and weights?
FAA ANSWER: The antenna foundation designs are based on a minimum allowable gross bearing of 2300 psf. Reference Drawings BHM-D-1401553- S001 and S002 note number 6.
The local FAA office will have a utility locate performed prior the insurance of the Notice to Proceed. The facility power is overhead; the telephone cable is underground;
and the existing RF cables are as shown on Drawing BHM-D-1401553-C001.
2. QUESTION: During the site visit it was observed that the road starting from the nature preserve and ending at the tower location was poorly maintained and did not to appear to allow vehicles larger than a pick-up truck to pass. Does the existing roadway have a weight limit or any other restrictions that the contractor should be aware of?
FAA ANSWER: The existing road has supported concrete trucks and cranes in the past, servicing the FAA RCAG facility and other cell sites. It is maintained by the State of Alabama Park Service. The Park Service has no restrictions on construction vehicles. FAA recommends that the Contractor take a video and/or pictures of the road at the start of construction.
