DROGUE PARACHUTE
Model# 9412 Specifications 2021
Drogue Parachutes Page 1 of 3
Specifications
Requirement.
The Bureau of Land Management, National Interagency Fire Center has a requirement for 60 each
Drogue Parachutes which is a component part of a Ram-Air Parachute System for use in manning wildfires by Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Smokejumpers.
Background.
The BLM Smokejumper Project began investigating the use of Ram-Air Parachutes in 1978. A drogue deployed system was developed during testing. In 1982 the drogue deployed Ram-Air Parachute was first used operationally on wildfires.
A high degree of quality in textiles and workmanship is required in the manufacture of parachutes for smokejumping. The environmental factors affecting the service life of a smokejumper canopy result in a parachute operational life expectancy of 100 jumps covering a span of eight to ten years. Insuring that fabrics and textiles used in the manufacture of a drogue parachute under this contract meet specifications is required.
Each Ram-Air main canopy requires a drogue parachute to constitute a complete system. The operational demands of smokejumping require smokejumper bases to carry an inventory of three main canopy systems per smokejumper.
This solicitation is for the manufacture of 60 each drogue parachutes to be used in the BLM
Smokejumper Project Ram-Air Parachute System.
