Description of Requirements for the Purchase Handheld XRF Analyzer

ERDC Environmental Laboratory, Environmental Processes Branch, requires a handheld XRF

Analyzer for non-destructive analysis of samples in the field and in deployment into non-laboratory settings. This instrument must be handheld weigh less than 3 pounds, use a 5W X-ray tube, and be compatible with existing laboratory accessories.

Based on market research the only instrument found that is a handheld XRF analyzer that meets the requirements is the Niton XL5 handheld XRF analyzer.

The instrument must:

Be handheld and less than 3 pounds.

Use a 5W x-ray tube

Optimize the geometry between the x-ray source and sample to ensure lowest limits of detection

Include general metals calibration, mining & soils calibration, plastics calibration, and industrial lead paint calibration.

Deliver optimum sensitivity while correcting for sample matrix effect.

Include 2 batteries

Have a mini test stand and a portable test stand.

Be able to use existing Niton XL5 laboratory accessories.
