Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The National Institute on Aging (NIA) requires an x-ray irradiator for irradiating mice and cells for the Translational Gerontology Branch (TGB), Laboratory of Genetics and Genomics (LGG), and Laboratory of Molecular Biology & Immunology (LMBI).

2. Background Information and Objective: The acquisition of an x-ray irradiator would supplement NIA’s cesium irradiator which has several security protocols making it a challenge for some individuals to perform work. The x-ray irradiator would free up staff since more users would be able to operate on their own due to less stringent security protocols in place. Having both an x-ray irradiator and cesium irradiator will allow for researchers to do comparison studies and determine if they could ultimately switch over to an x-ray irradiator for their experiments. The irradiator should have the ability to control dosage, target radiation to a specific part of a mouse, provide lethal and sub-lethal radiation, have an environmental chamber and programmable shelf and turntable.

3. Generic Name of Product: X-ray irradiator

4. Purchase Description: X-Rad320 System including TouchRad Dose Measurement & Control (ASY-01045), adjustable variable collimator (XD1601-0000), environmental chamber X-Rad 220VAC (ASSY355), external dose measurement (XD1610-0000) & water tank phantom (XD1610-0100), and programmable mototrized shelf with turntable

(XD1602-2203)

5. Salient characteristics: The x-ray irradiator shall include a shielded x-ray cabinet with a 4 kW 320 kV tube, choice of coolant, multi-user control, full screen monitoring of specimens, remote diagnostics and software updating, adjustable shelf, dose measurement and control, adjustable variable collimator, environmental chamber, external dose measurement and a programmable motorized shelf with turntable.

6. Quantity: 1

7. Delivery Date: 90 days after receipt of order

8. Period of Performance: N/A

9. Option(s): N/A
