THIS IS A BRAND NAME ONLY PROCUREMENT. The Government will only consider quotations submitted for the brand and version of the software identified herein. No substitutions are allowable.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)/Material Measurement
Laboratory’s (MML), Biosystems and Biomaterials Division Cell Systems Science Group, provides measurement assurance to support the development of innovative applications in regenerative medicine and public health.
The Group is developing mammalian cell reference materials and analytical methods to facilitate high quality cell material development for the regenerative medicine and biotechnology community. To meet its mission requirements, the Group requires microscope control software that allows the NIST Keyence Benchtop BZ-X800 microscope system to collect tiled and multifocal images and stitching of the tiled images to generate a large field of view.
This is not an upgrade or a new software purchase. The Group purchased the Keyence
Benchtop BZ-X800 microscope system in 2020 under purchase order number 1333ND20PNB640860.
The original equipment purchase included free access to the software through October 2023.
This purchase will allow NIST permanent access to the modules already in use. This specially designed microscope system is a critical part of the new Bioprocessing laboratory and is used to develop metrics to characterized induced pluripotent stem cell source material for biomanufacturing.
Keyence is the sole manufacturer of the hardware and software for the BZ-X800 microscope system. Keyence owns all proprietary rights to the hardware and software. Only Keyence modules and software are compatible with NIST’s existing Keyence Benchtop BZ-X800 microscope system.
Quoters shall provide pricing for the following line item:
LINE ITEM 0001 – Quantity one (1) each microscope control software and quantity one (1) each image analysis software
Keyence Part/Version Numbers: BZ-X800 Viewer (BZ Series Application), version number
01.02.03.02; and
Keyence Part/Version Number: BZ-X800 Analyzer (BZ-X800_Analyzer.exe), version number
1.1.1.8.
The required software must meet all of the following specifications:
Microscope Control Software:
1. Shall be capable of controlling the automation motors of the Keyence BZ-X800 through the Keyence input/output port.
2. Shall be capable of allowing the BZ-X800 microscope system to collect tiled images with at least 5% overlap between consecutive images.
3. Shall allow user to program a series of points on a 3-dimensional grid so that the microscope can automatically move to those positions and collect images.
4. Shall be capable of controlling the objective turret, fluorescent filters, illumination, camera settings for each image collected in the series of points.
5. Must have ability to control the z-focus motor by at least positive and negative 50 um through a user interface.
6. Must have the ability to perform large “batch mode” imaging. At least a 10 ×10 tiled image from a standard 6 well cell culture plate must be possible without human interactions.
Image Analysis Software:
7. Must include software components that allow image stitching of images collected with the Keyence Benchtop BZ-X800 microscope.
8. Must include the ability to export images before and after image processing. Images must be exported into at least one well known format (tiff, jpg, png, binary, csv) that includes unmodified or lossless compression images.
9. Must include the ability to export metadata generated during image processing of large datasets to an open Windows readable file structures. Data must be exported in at least a comma-delimited file structure.
10. Must include software components that facilitate the analysis of large scale 2-dimensional Z-stacks image data by automatic identification of focal planes.
11. Software must be used on a Windows PC computer with Windows 10.
DELIVERY
Delivery shall occur within 60 calendar days of award. Delivery of software and electronic components (serial number/code) shall be made electronically to the NIST
