Automated Palletizing Systems
BEP-RFP-16-0433
Questions and Answers
1. Can the government provide a detailed scale drawing of the floor layout for the COPE system, including heights, overhead obstructions, and allowable walkway space? Based on the site visit, Attachment 5 does not show the proper walkway dimensions. This would be for each COPE area #13, #14, and 16, since each area had different existing structure and monuments.
See attached drawings for reference:
• 39107BD FLOOR LAYOUT COPE 13.PDF
• 39107BE FLOOR LAYOUT COPE 14.PDF
• 39107BF FLOOR LAYOUT COPE 16.PDF
• B-200M PLAN VIEW WITH PALLETIZER AREAS HIGHLIGHTED.PDF
2. What is the cycle time for the bricks exiting the COPE?
Normal operation is 6 bricks per minute, please reference section “C.6.2.1 Processing Rate” for specification
3. How many bricks will be on the COPE exit conveyor at any time?
One brick, each brick should be picked up by the robotic arm prior to another brick exiting the conveyor.
4. Can a bar code reader be placed on the COPE exit conveyor?
Yes
5. Can modifications be added to the COPE exit conveyor to align the bricks?
Yes
6. Does the BEP automated palletizer need to meet ISO Standard 10218-2:2011 Robots and Rot Devices – Safety Requirements for Industrial Robots, Robot Systems and Integration?
Equipment delivered to the BEP shall meet OSHA and industry standards for the safety, health and well-being of BEP employees, please reference C.4.2 of the solicitation. Vendors are encouraged to review applicable standards such as OSHA STD 01-12-002 Guidelines for Robotic Safety dated 09/21/1987, American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Standard ANSI-RIA R15.06-1986, "Industrial Robots and Industrial Robot Systems - Safety Requirements"; and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards ISO 10218-1:2006 and ISO 10218-2:2011.
7. Is it permissible to have the current COPE control panel behind the automated palletizer safety gate? To access the COPE control panel, the automated palletizer will be shut down in safety mode.
Yes, See attached drawings
8. Is the automated palletizer responsible for stacking Pallet A on top of Pallet B?
This is not a requirement
9. Will the operator band and stack the pallets inside the Automated Palletizer System working envelope?
No, the operator will “band and stack” the pallets outside the working envelope.
10. SOW Section C.7.1, is this 30 business days or calendar days?
Thirty (30) calendar days
11. Attachment #4 states that the brick shall be straight and square to within ± 1/8 inch (3.175mm).
Paragraph C.6.1.7 states that the “Maximum permissible overhand of currency bricks in ±2.5mm.” With the variance as stated in Attachment #4, is the ± requirement in SOW C.6.1.7 feasible?
C.6.1.7 Stacking Sequence Stability The automated palletizers shall ensure that the stacked currency bricks are stable during the stacking sequence. Maximum permissible overhang of currency bricks shall be within +/- 6 mm of the first currency brick placed directly on the skid or the bottom most layer.
12. Is there a representative brick that is available as GFE for machine tryout?
Yes, a representative brick may be made available after contract award.
13. Is there an incumbent palletizer system in use at the BEP?
Yes, there is a system in use at the Western Currency Facility located in Fort Worth, TX.
14. In Attachment 5, can the automated palletizer mounting legs be attached to the floor on the outside (left) area of the COPE exit conveyor? This would be outside the marked working area.
Yes, See attached drawings.
15. Paragraph C.6.2.1 has a high-speed processing rate of eight bricks per minute that equates to one brick every 7.5 seconds. SOW Paragraph C.6.1.6 states that a total of ten skids will be produced per process.
How many of the processes are produced in one 8-hour shift?
Number of processes produced in an 8-hour shift is dependent on the denomination being printed.
Multiple 8-hour shifts are normally required to produce a single process.
