FOUNDATION SHORING PLAN1

S1.0

SHORING GENERAL NOTES

1. Design Loads:

a. Dead Loads

i. Exterior East Wall Load 200 lb/ft

ii. Second Floor 10 psf

iii. First Floor 16 psf

b. Live Loads

i. Construction Live Loads 20 psf

ii. Minimum Roof Loads 20 psf

iii. Existing Wall Load due to Snow 150 lb/ft.

iv. Allowable Soil Bearing Pressure 1,500psf

2. Submittals

a. Delegated Design

i. Contractor shall submit the shoring delegated design package sealed by a Professional Engineer licensed in the State of Missouri for review prior to the commencement of the shoring installation.

1.) Calculations 2.) Drawings including connection and assembly details.

3.) Shoring Scope

b. Design, install and maintain shoring and temporary structural supports as required to preserve stability and prevent unexpected or uncontrolled movement, settlement, or collapse of existing construction and finishes to remain.

4. Miscellaneous

a. These general notes supplement the project specifications. Refer to project specifications for additional requirements.

b. The contractor is responsible for coordinating requirements from other documents into their shop drawings and calculations.

c. The contractor shall follow all applicable standards including Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) and American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards and be familiar with and follow the safety guidelines recommended by the Scaffolding, Shoring and Forming Institute.

Local, state and federal statutes or regulations shall supersede the above-mentioned guidelines if there is a conflict and it is the responsibility of the contractor to comply with these statutes and regulations.

d. The stabilization and protection of all in-place surfaces and materials in this building structure is paramount. The contractor must take all measures of care possible to protect the in-place building surfaces and materials from damage during shoring installation and construction. Do not mechanically fasten to in-place building materials without prior written approval from the project architect-of-record.

e. Any detail titled as a typical detail is applicable throughout the drawings. These details are defined as general standards that are usually not identified by specific reference within the drawings. These details may be modified or superseded by specific details that are referenced within the drawings.

f. Do not scale the drawings. Use specified dimensions.

g. Contractor to verify all dimensions in the field prior to performing the calculations and submitting the shop drawings and calculations.

h. No cutting, notching or openings shall be made in any shoring member without the prior written approval of the delegated shoring engineer-of-record.

i. Provide temporary bracing as required to maintain the alignment and security of all shoring during installation and construction.

j. The contractor is responsible for limiting the amount of construction load imposed upon the shoring framing. Construction loads shall not exceed the design capacity of the framing at the time the loads are imposed.

k. The shoring is to be designed to function as a unit upon completion. The contractor is responsible for furnishing all temporary bracing and/or support that may be required as the result of the contractor's construction methods and/or sequences.

l. It is the contractor's sole responsibility to determine erection procedures and sequences and to ensure the safety of the shoring and its component parts during its use. This includes the addition of any shoring, sheeting, temporary bracing, guys, or tie downs that may be necessary.

Review of the shoring construction by any design professional is for conformance with the design only, not to review the contractor's construction procedures. Lack of comments by the design professional regarding construction means and methods shall not be interpreted as approval of any construction procedures.

m. Job safety shall be the sole responsibility of the contractor.

n. In cases where material or members specified is not readily available, the contractor may submit the use of alternate material or members for review by the shoring engineer-of-record. The alternate material or members proposed must minimally provide the same strength and stiffness as the original design. The contractor shall be responsible for verifying that any substitutions do not conflict with the project specifications. Any additional costs associated with any proposed substitutions shall be borne by the contractor.

o. The contractor shall inform the shoring engineer-of-record in writing of any deviations from the contract documents. The contractor shall not be relieved of the responsibility of such deviations by the shoring engineer-of-record's review of shop drawings, product data, etc., unless the contractor has specifically informed the shoring engineer-of-record of such deviation at the time of submission, and the shoring engineer-of-record has given written approval for the specific deviation.
