About this file

This document is a salient characteristics specification (S24165) detailing requirements for two digital temperature cables. The cables are steel-reinforced with embedded temperature sensors for temperature profiling applications, with each cable measuring 36 feet in total length including 5 feet of lead cable. Each cable contains 32 temperature sensors spaced at 1-foot intervals.

The technical specifications require SDI-12 communication output, measurement accuracy of ±0.2°C (-40 to 85°C), operating temperature range of -55 to 85°C, and 1-second temperature update intervals. The cables must be powered by a 12 VDC power source, have sensor bodies no larger than 0.9 inches in diameter, and require no maintenance or calibration. The cables terminate with stripped and tinned wires for connection to data collection devices. This requirement is part of USGS solicitation 140G0125Q0019, a small business set-aside with NAICS code 334513, with quotes due December 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM EST.

Digital Temperature Cable

SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS:

2 ea. Digital Temperature Cable:

1. Shall consist of a steel reinforced digital output cable with embedded temperature sensors for temperature profiling applications.

2. Cable shall be 36 ft in overall length with 5.0 ft. of lead cable (before first sensor begins).

3. Shall include 32 ea. temperature sensors spaced at 1.0 ft. intervals.

4. Sensors shall start from the same end as the bare leads (or end that connects to data collection device).

5. Cable shall terminate with stripped and tinned wires (leads) for connection to a data collection device.

6. Shall include SDI-12 communication output.

7. Shall have a typical measurement accuracy of +/-0.2o C (-40 to 85o C), or better.

8. Shall be capable of operating over a temperature range from at least -55 to 85o C.

9. Shall have a measurement (temperature update) interval of 1 second.

10. Shall be capable of being powered from an external 12 VDC (nominal) power source.

11. Sensor bodies/molds shall be no larger than 0.9 inches in size/diameter.

12. Shall require no maintenance or calibration.
