Salient Characteristics
1. Must be able to process at minimum 100 slides monthly
2. Stainer must be capable of completing multiple runs during an 8-hour day.
3. Fully automated free-standing instrument with defined capabilities
· Baking
· Deparaffinization
· Staining
· Counter Stain
4. Must be able to run at minimum the following stains: AFB, GMS, Iron, Trichrome, Mucicarmine, PAS, Reticulin, Elastin, Steiner and Warthin-Starry stains
5. The staining instrument must have independent slide heating and bulk fluid/waste sensing capacity
6. Instruments must offer easy to read, printable staining reports
7. Instruments must use barcoded reagents.
8. Instruments must have capability to ensure that one can’t use reagents if they are expired or if the volume of the reagents are insufficient to complete the run.
9. Instruments must have easy slide insertion
10. Instruments must automatically track insufficient reagent quantity and alert for tests remaining.
11. Barcodes automatically register and locate staining kits and slides.
12. Must have an automated decontamination method.
13. Instrument that allows simultaneously staining with independent temperature control.
14. May be used in conjunction with automated glass slide cover-slipper
15. Allow for at least 4 L of bulk fluid on-board storage
16. On-site training vendor training provided for at least two key operators.
17. Minimum of 20 reagent positions
18. Special stains platform requires provisions to reduce staff exposure to harmful chemicals
19. Must provide remote support for trouble shooting
20. System to include a stain status display for review and workflow management of all integrated (linked) testing instrumentation. All monitors/screens must clearly display information in all light conditions.
21. Must have barcode interface programming capability with Laboratory Information System (VISTA).
22. Must be Windows10 compliant
23. Must come with minimum 1 year manufacture warranty
24. Must be FDA approved
Printers and Other Support Items (Support Items)
1. A printer(s) that has the capability of printing a staining report with at least the case number.
2. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) with line conditioner for each instrument provided. Each UPS must provide electrical power for a minimum of 15 minutes after power fails and the system must allow for an automatic controlled shutdown to prevent damage to the instrument and data records.
