SECTION 1. BASE PRODUCTION
1.1 Wayside Exhibit Bases
Produce, assemble and finish bases. All bases shall be fabricated in accordance with the VIS and Wayside Hardware Specifications Manual.
1.1.A Wayside bases include, but are not limited to:
1.1.A.1. Low-Profile – A wayside that is inclined (at 30 or 45 degrees) to enable a reader to view a park feature that is being interpreted by the wayside.
1.1.A.2. Visitor Information Signs – Signs intended to convey a range of information to park visitors. Information conveyed by Visitor Information Signs can relate to pedestrian wayfinding, park regulations and safety, interpretation, resource protection, and general information. Interpretive wayside exhibits are included in this section.
1.1.A.3. Upright – A wayside that stands vertically and that typically provides information (rather than interpretation) at trailheads and other outdoor visitor contact points.
1.1.B Metal Fabrication
Metal fabrication includes, but is not limited to the following:
1.1.B.1 Saw-cut off – both square and angular – of standard aluminum and steel bar, rod, tubing, pipe angle, channel, and custom extruded shapes.
1.1.B.2 Shear aluminum sheet and steel sheet.
1.1.B.3 Punch, drill, tap, countersink, and provide similar milling operations.
1.1.B.4 Provide high quality welding of aluminum and steel.
1.1.B.5 Provide standard mechanical preparation and finishing of aluminum and steel including sandblasting, sanding, graining, and buffing.
1.1.B.6 Provide final assembly of manufactured components employing a variety of fasteners including screws, bolts, drive rivets, and pop- rivets.
1.1.B.7 Apply high quality paint finishes.
1.1.C Dies
Acquire and maintain all dies necessary for the creation of all extrusions specified on page 182 of Attachment P, VIS and Wayside Hardware Specifications Manual.
1.1.D Packaging and Shipping
The contractor shall provide the following:
| 1.1.D1 | Pack exhibits using “green” environmental methods as much as possible, such as recycled cardboard boxes, biodegradable “peanuts”, recycled paper and cardboard cushioning products. |
| 1.1.D2 | Whenever practical, ship complete base assemblies in individual containers, or in logical and coordinated sets of containers, to facilitate easy and rapid installation by the recipient; do not ship individual sign components from multiple subcontractors that require complex assembly by the recipient. |
| 1.1.D3 | Packing slip describing what is in each container. |
| 1.1.D4 | Drawings and written instructions required for assembly, installation, and maintenance of the base. |
