Background:

The Lake City VA Medical Center in Lake City has a requirement for complete overhaul of all beds for our long‐term care patients. The requested items are clinically necessary to achieve the best possible patient outcomes and can improve overall hospital safety. Currently utilized beds are in less than fully functional status and need replacement.

Scope of Work & or Salient Characteristics:

The scope of work includes the need for long‐term care beds to improve patient outcomes and improve hospital safety for those patients that are admitted for long‐term. These beds will allow for the Community Living Center (CLC) facility to improve quality of care for the next possible 10‐year plan. Many characteristics are unique for the critical care setting and cannot be found in any other product features collectively:

Must contain a roll‐in‐low or roll‐at‐any‐height feature as the mobility options.

Needs to have an intuitive two‐pedal locking system that is centrally positioned at the foot end of the bed and easily visible due to color‐coded status indicators.

Must provide a sleep surface that expands and retracts from 35", 39" and 42" and quickly adjusts to move through doorways while compliant to HBSW entrapment guidelines which will allow for ease of movement through the Lake City CLC.

Must also include corner mattress stops which provide greater security of the mattress surface and easily adjust to the expanded widths of the frame up to 42 inches.

Needs to include a restructured and more robust sleep surface and panel mounting mechanism as standard that is designed to provide added stability and extended product life.

At its lowest height, the bed must be at 7 inches to assist with patient leaving bed providing minimal risks for falls with the highest height at 30 inches. Bed length must be at 76 or 80 inches dependent on whether the bed is extended or not for taller patients.

Underbed clearance must be at 23‐3/4 inches.

Maximum back angle in the raised position needs to be 65 degrees with a knee adjustment maximum angle at 35 degrees.

Safe working load for this product must be 600lbs.

Must include surface visual of laminate spiced cherry with brown edge to maintain uniformity throughout the CLC.

Must include safelight option for visibility.

Needs to contain the ProCair Plus mattress that measures at 42 inches in width by 80 inches in length.
