a) Essential/significant physical, functional, or performance characteristics:

Requirements –

1. Must use wireless, inductive charging technology that will work despite wet disinfectants

2. Must not have exposed metal which can corrode when disinfected

3. Must have seamless design so wet disinfectant cannot enter and cause malfunction

4. Must have indicator to tell when the device needs charging

5. Must be made with PVC-free plastic

6. Must have a night mode (to help avoid waking other patients)

7. Must have a focal point between 3-4 inches

8. Must withstand drops of 5-6 feet

9. Must be low profile (less than 5.5 inches height) to avoid top-heavy drops

10. Must have configurable optical and visual feedback when scanning

11. Must have extended battery life (at least 45,000 scans per battery charge)

12. Must use low energy Bluetooth to prolong battery life

13. Must be able to mount charger on computers on wheels (mobile workstations)

e) Purpose – The Scanner is a BCMA requirement and is currently in use at the West Los Angeles VAMC and is approved by OI&T. This and other models have been tested by Nursing Service and its various Service Lines who employ these devices.
