Title of Services: New drip irrigation installation for table grapes and citrus

Statement of Work

1. Background:

The USDA-ARS facility at Parlier, CA has an active grape breeding program that had been planting own-rooted seedlings for 20 years in the same soil. Updated trellis and irrigation systems are required.

The USDA-ARS facility at Parlier, CA is setting up citrus breeding program to meet the industry needs.

This acquisition is to install drip irrigation systems in four plots for grapes and one plot for Citrus.

2. Scope:

The proposed blocks for the irrigation system are currently bare ground that has been deep ripped and disked flat.

Block 11, Drip Irrigation:

11 rows with vine spacing of 6’ x 12’. Water service is provided by a 4” PVC pipe at one edge of each block. Irrigation lines direction is east to west direction.

Block 31, Drip Irrigation:

29 rows with vine spacing of 6' x 12'. Water service is provided by a 4” PVC pipe at one edge of each block. Irrigation lines direction is east to west direction.

Block 12, Drip Irrigation:

34 rows with vine spacing of 3’ x 12’ . Water service is provided by a 4” PVC pipe at one edge of each block. . Irrigation lines direction is east to west direction.

Block 22, Drip Irrigation:

38 rows with vine spacing: 3' x 12'. Water service is provided by a 4” PVC pipe at one edge of each block. Irrigation lines direction is north to south direction.

Block 13, Citrus Irrigation:

It is 4.49 acres with row spacing of 18’ and 16 rows in east to west direction. Water service is provided by a 4” PVC pipe at one edge of the block.

3. Objectives:

The goal of this acquisition is to obtain high quality irrigation systems installation at minimum cost.

4. Requirements:

For grape blocks, the vendor is expected to provide a completed drip irrigation system with a variable number of separate valves per block such that approximately one fifth of the block can be planted each year and not have to irrigate the whole block at once or manually shut off a large number of rows. Header should terminate in flexible risers at each row center. The system should provide 95% efficiency.

Vendor is expected to provide:

• Deliver materials to job site.

• Mark field for system installation.

• Provide a separate filter for each block.

• Provide a manual valve at each row.

• Use in-line drip irrigation hose with gallons per hour (GPH) typical for our soils and climate. Emitter spacing is to be 3’ on center for grapes.

For Citrus block, the vendor is expected to provide a completed micro-sprinkler irrigation system with headers that terminate in flexible risers at each row center and two valves for each side of the row that could be manually shut off individually. The system should provide 95% efficiency.

Vendor is expected to provide:

• Deliver materials to job site.

• Mark field for system installation.

• Provide a separate filter for each block.

• Provide a manual valve at each row.

• For citrus block, use irrigation hose with gallons per hour (GPH) typical for our soils and climate. Use 8’ spacing for micro-sprinklers in 8 southern rows and 10’ spacing for the micro-sprinklers in 8 northern rows. Sprinklers should be halfway between trees.

When field is marked for system installation, USDA Farmer will be responsible for digging trenches per the specifics and marking from contractor. Once Contractor has completed installation USDA will be responsible for backfilling the trenches.

Proposal should include:

• Itemized lists showing parts and their weigh/size/schedule for PVC lines, manifolds, IPS risers and drip hose. Provide a schematic block layout in vineyard and citrus referencing any existing adjacent vine rows, roads, and avenues.

• Filter and controller specifics.

• Labor costs.
